I picked up a $300 79 Mikado 4X4 with A/C . It has a 3 inch body lift that appears to be a kit, not home made. It has a clogged tank and a couple other issues though. My 19 y.o. son is probably going to give me back my blue LUV and take this when it's ready.

Nice headlights huh? I have a couple originals in my parts pile for it.
ImageImage
My son took off the tail lights to fix them. Nice roll bar and Dick Cepek lights that work.

ImageImage

Ever seen a spare holder mounted here? Nice custom seat huh? We'll have to go shopping for buckets I think.
ImageImage
Panels are original but trashed. Is this a 79 thing? Or did someone just stick it on there?
ImageImage
Good running G-200 block and head. Almost perfect dash.

Tell me what you all think. I can take the bad and the good as well as the jokes... bring it on.

The lower door panel section: it's a Mikado thang

Is that 4x4 emblem on the glove box inlay or something? maybe a dealer extra.

Nice find, it is workable. I have a 4X4 unbent tire mount and some side marker lights if you need them.

What I am trying to say is it is a POS and I will give you $50.00 for it.

I know about the Mikado door panels. I think the cloth and maybe the upper vinyl has been changed before.

I think it's like a sticker on the glove box door. That's what I'm asking about. Was the 79 voted truck of the year buy a magazine or something?
Has anyone ever seen another with that on there? If it doesn't belong, I'll take it off.

I believe the 79 4X4 was truck of the year.

Thanks, mytmouz. Just when things in the garage were slowing to a dull roar, here I go again. My wife isn't too happy with me right now. Parking space at my house has become an issue. I don't know why, we only have 7 vehicles out there.

I just finally got paperwork from this guy this week. It must have sat in a tow yard for a long time. It has quite a paper trail. It was a lienhold sale from the tow co. to this guy that I got it from. He got it to pass smog, so I know that should be good when I need to do it.

I haven't touched the truck yet in fear of not having the paperwork. My buddy has a set of brand new BFG's all terrains for it for $375 waiting for me.

I don't know what they are from. They are definitely not original or stock.
But whoever wanted square headlights in their LUV and did this, did a pretty good job when they did. I have a set of originals to put it back the way it should be.

The wife has given in to me. She likes to drive the blue one, so at least it will be around a long time. I said I would sell my GMC but my wife and daughter want it around. :?

I officially own the 4X4! I drove it all day Fri. and some today. Needs some carb work. I know I'm not supposed to, but I locked in the hubs and tried out the 4X on my street. It pops out of high under acceleration. It's good in low. Was this because of the street? I was going straight. :? I have another 4X4 trans. if I need it.
Had to paint the roof of my trailer today, but think I will go swap out the headlights now. I have new tires lined up but would like to get new wheels for it at the same time. I don't care for the black. I want chrome or aluminum.
I need to go the the junk yard and find some bucket seats. I stole the seat out of my 80 so I could drive it.
It's coming along. 8)

It's been a good couple of weeks. I got the headlights in and working. Whoever put the squares in did a pretty good job. I don't know why they wanted them in the first place, but the mountings and all electrical were nicely done and not a hack job at all.
Image

I cleaned up the connector at the ignition switch, and filed up the fuse block. This was this cause of all electrical problems it had.
I put in a older LUV rear view mirror with matching clip in visors. I cut out the torn part of the head liner. I'm not sure what I want to do here yet.
Image

I put in some 72 gray door panels. BTW Those "Help" GM window cranks at the Kragen / Pep Boys style auto part stores fit the regulator shaft perfectly. :D

I got the tires from my friend and another friend mounted them on my ugly black wheels for me. I did buy new lug nuts but couldn't find center caps. The tires are brand new and I got them for $375! 235- 7- 15.
Image

I guess because of the body lift they had to open up the holes in the floor. so my friend gave me these two boots that have been on his shelf for 20 years. Boy am I glad he never throws away any old parts from his Chevelle. :D
ImageImage

I got the seats out of a '99 Cavalier. I still need to clean them up, and will need to a little fab work to lower them down a little and bolt them in.
I'm going to Line X type stuff the floor board and bottom of the doors to fill the speaker holes and finish the doors off.
ImageImage

Runs real good but I need a carb. and plan to put a Weber on there. I'll just change it out to smog it every other year. I got a better grill and buzz bombed it gloss black today. It's drying now. I got the ash tray mounted correctly and the light and lighter both work.

Now if all yawl could just send me money.... OK, I'll stop.

I do like my 4X4. I think this one will be my favorite.
