Looking good so far. I'm glad you volunteered to my guinea pig.

I saw at Home Depot the other day , it was a kit, a spray can that hooks to a glass jar. You can thin and spray almost any paint you want through it, I guess. They also had replacement cans.

Looking good, I'm going to have my paint tinted at the store, I think I am going to go with a Nissan burnt orange, that used to be on my old 720 I had. How is it filling, since it isn't down to bare metal, and did you wipe the body down with mineral spirits to degrease it?

I think Rustoleum makes a pretty good orange too. Filling nicely, and roger that on the wiping down with mineral spirits. Didn't have a whole lot to fill, I did a good job filling and feathering out scratches overall, have a tiny few left...but hey it's a truck.

After looking at the bumper I painted with the Duplicolor liner spray, I've decided once this job is complete, to do the bed and rails with it. So if anyone 'nearby' is in the market for a good drop in bedliner and tailgate cover, drop me a pm.

Dude, you are gonna be so happy in about 2 weeks when it's back together & polished up. It looks awesome so far & should come out excellent! Try to maintain patience now & not rush to finish it. This seems to be a common but understandable error made by ppl wanting to show it off & F'ing up. You invest time that $ave$ your wallet (there ain't no free lunch) but I love telling people I rolled mine & the satisfaction you earn doing your own work is immeasureable.
:D :D

Yep, I'm plenty patient... learned from past screwed up rush jobs :)

Just finised the 4th coat. Have learned alot up to this point, nice little "techniques" and being able to recongnize what the paint and roller are trying to "tell" me, and recongnizing what looks like "OH CRAP I just screwed that one up"... is not always the case, there are times when I may have the roller loaded too much and the thinned paint begins to run and bubble and if left alone would surley orange peel all to hell and back, but I've discovered if I just stay on that particular panel and keep working the roller, blowing out bubbles etc....work the roller some more it starts to recover very well, then one last light pass with the roller and sit back, watch te paint start to level and reflect light.

Tonight I also learned I'm a big fan of the small foam detail 'brushes', they are great for the spots the roller just can't get to without squishing the paint out and making a mess.

Will post some pics of the 4th Coat in a while...gotta pizza with my name on it waiting ;)

I'm guessing after baking in the Texas sun for a few weeks, it will do great.

Here's some 4th coat pics, not too much difference from 3rd, except better coverage.

Note to self, the next time the wife comes out to the shop to give me an American Idol update...lock the door. Bugs love flourescent light almost as much as they love fresh sticky paint.

Just finished the second wet sanding after letting the 4th coat dry. I would like to stress the importance of surface prep and practicing with the roller and proper paint-spirits ratio, and taking your time. Makes the horrible chore of wet sanding alot easier, after 4 coats I have almost no orange peel or runs to deal with, the wet sanding went great.

Do you have to wet sand between coats, or can you wait until you get 3-4 on.

The runs and spots on the floor are from wetsanding, not paint runs :D
