Its a Briggs & Stratton "Brute"
2.5 hp compressor w/15 gallon tank

The pressure is fine, if it's one of the small tanks, and with a 2.5 engine, it probably is, you won't have enough volume. Individual panels would be OK. When I had my body shop, I finally acquired a 100 gallon tank, but I have used a 30 and waited for it to build up between coats. :(

It all depends on what you want to use it for. And what you need be be concerned with is the cfm rating, the HP doesnt really mean shit and how high the psi can go doesn't really mean shit either. Most tools you'll need at least 4 cfm at 90 psi. 5-7 is better. What your looking at sounds like it would be fine for the average do-it-yourself-er. Most HVLP guns require 6-7 cfm at 90psi, but you should be fine with 5cfm. Sounds like a deal!

:smt017 If i were to get a bigger tank how big would this motor be able to handle?
would that change the cfm at max psi or would the air just last a little longer? :smt033

What I would suggest before buying is to research on the net about air compressors. There are plenty of forums on air compressors, that way you'll be happy with whatever you buy :D But I would say the compressor your talking about will be good enough to lay on some paint, youll just have to wait a little longer for the compressor to recharge with air between coats. Good luck- I have a little 1HP 1 gallon compressor just to blow air to clean off parts-But a want a big 80 gal one for painting and whatnot 8)

mine is a 26 gal 5 1/2 hp and I wish it was bigger, when running grinders and high consuming air tools it will drain the tank, but I dont use them very much, mostly just impacts and rachets.

Dont worry about the size of the engine/motor worry about how many gallons it will hold. The correct size of the engine/motor will come with the correct size of the tank.

The more air it can hold the more air you can use and the more you can use your tools without it turning on all the time.

IMO 26 gal is about as small as you want if your using air tools... if your just airing up tires and inner tubes... then a 1 gal is fine. If your painting, running grinders or your using it all the time.. then a big 40-100 gal will do the trick.
