Hey gotta question. Was told in a mini truck I should think about going to a 4000 stall and 3:08 gears or higher for milage and performance. Was told I wouldn't burn the tires on takeoff as bad and still get down the road good. Wonder what 2:92's would do like was in my elcamino I had. I would think I will lose all my quickness without the lower gears. I have 3;73 with a 2500 stall
Remember this is a street truck no strip except maybe a nostalgia drag or something.

you will fry the converter if you try to run anything less tha 4.56 think of it this way,if you have 3.08's in it what will your cruzing rpm be? well less than the stall rpm of the converter which means it will be slipping all the time.If this is a street truck that sees little or no strip i would say put a rv converter in it(very little stall) and some 2.73's in it.I had this setup in mine and it got 20+ mpg with a dual plane and mild cam.

Stick with the3.73s and no more than a 3500 converter (2800-3000would be best) If you try that 4000 with 3.08s ,like Mad Dog said you will be able to roast weenies on the converter.

Hmmmmmm, think I will leave well enough alone then. Thanks
Broke the top of my nose today. Was putting the tranny back together on my sons motor to go in his s-10. Friggin wrench slipped and hit me right between the eyes on the top of my nose.
Cut it pretty good ,bled like hell. Always something. Did finally just finish getting the 400 and tranny back in his truck. Woof what a job.

Just a thought , but any cruise rpm under stall will be building heat driving down the road . The pump picks up out of the pan and pressures the converter , the fluid then feeds the trans clutches and bands . converter heat burns fluid . once fluid is burnt it is no good and will burn up soft parts . For a steet truck I would say run the least anount of stall possible , ecspecilly if gas milage is any concern . I had a mellow 350/350 3.73 combo with a 2200 and it worked good . Most of us run big stalls to get the motor into the "power zone" as quick as possible . This is only MY opinion . Your 2500 should be fine .

Sounds good and like I am at the right setup. Was just told it would keep me from roasting the tires all the time by going to a higher gear and stall when I do get on it. Gas milage no big issue. Just want to keep the tires from spinning so much. Guess it is hard to do in a luv anyway

Drag radials will tone down the tire spin at the cost of parts breakage .

the gears depend on what you want to do ,3.73-3.25 are all good street gears .3.90 - 4.56 to drag race with the 3.5 are darn good for street,so so to dragrace with. Land speed racing maxton 3.4 to 3.00 B.ville 2.9- 2.25.
I am going from a 3.08 10 bolt to a 2.8 9 inch If the eng. can pull it to 6000 rpms will be 175+ mph :)
Like I said depends on what you want to do.
