Hi, just getting tired of my front cover leaking, cant ever seem to get that cheap peice of junk timing cover to seal well. Yes, i am using the correct thick front oil pan seal, and yes, i did smere some Right Stuff on the gasket. Bolts are tight and I also made sure to oil the main seal too before i slid the dampner in. Just wondering if the steel ones are better than the aluminum ones and is there is a certain brand i should be staying away from. Thanks! -Adam

its a gen1 350 BTW

I clean and paint a stocker 'cause I can't find any aftermarket ones that are good on a consistent basis. I usually use a cover off a 305, the one that has the little tube in the center of the cover, grind the tube off, and use an aftermarket timing pointer that bolts on using 2 of the cover bolts. The one with the tube is just a preference thing, no real reason why...

aren;t those plastic, or did you mean those thick steel ones? no, i think the Gen2 blocks like in the mid-90's suburbans, trucks, etc... that used a 350 were plastic. If memory serves me right, they say something on them too. Thanks!

When you use chrome always grind the chrome off the gasket surface and no leaky.
