i would like to know if i found a s-10 with a blowed motor and swape dthe front and rear axles (4x4) and the trans then installed the 3.8 out of my olds if it would run better or worse? like what would the crawl ratio be like? this would be for a trail rig not a swamp r mud buggy.

Just a little FYI, If the 3.8 is out of a front wheeler, often the starter is on the opposite side from the inline stuff.

what do you mean inline i'm talking about the 60* v6 engine (3.8 olds) and a 60* trans (4x4 s-10)

well first off, the s10 front running gear wont bolt up in the luv. its be easier to do a straight axle swap from something like a toyota.

secondly, the 60* 3.8 should work with the 4x4 tranny and transfercase from the s10. the only thing i see being a problem is finding a flywheel that balanced for the engine.

other than that, it just a matter of fitting up the engine, fabbin up motor mounts, and getting all the running gear sorted out.

if you put the right gearing in it, it should crawl up a wall.

Inline, motor to tranny to driveshaft to rear end. Front wheel drive. motor to transaxle to half shafts to front wheels. Some frnt wheel drive engines have the starter on the opposite side of the engine block than the same engine in a rear wheel drive application. There is an S10 in my buddy's junkyard now that has a 2.2 out of a front wheel drive car in the truck. The oilpan was swapped, the engine installed, the wiring and hoses were hooked up on top, they got to the starter...
