What brand of motor oil do you run ? What weight ? Why ? Kinda looking for comments and opinions . I have always run valvoline , and recently swapped to delo 400 Desiel oil , Seems to have slowed the truck down some . I think I'm going back to Valvoline 10w-30 vr-1 or racing grade .

I run castrol 10/40 in new engines, and 20/50 in old ones...but valvoline is good too.

This is a good question. I have always run Valvoline in mine but have recently switched to diesel oil as well. The reason I switched is because of a recommendation from my cam builder (Ultradine). He said that conventional oil has got stripped of important addivties for my solid lift cam. If you think about it all late model engines have roller cams. Anybody else heard this of just a rumor?

After many cams failed for others I started looking into this and found a few of the old lubricants (zinc) had been removed from oil, I use rotilla and stp to break in, then 10-40 after that.

In my old race motor i used 20/50 castrol synthetic and never had a problem with it. It was a 10:1 motor on 111 octane. The new motor is on 20/50valvoline racing oil. Motor builder reccommended it and it runs well. The alcohol milks it up, but thats expected

luvit80 , I had heard the same rumor . I also have a roller cam . I think i am just giving up power to parasidic drag . Not trying to split hairs , but i'm .4 off my goal of 11.50 street truck with A/C . I have also heard that rotella t would get better gas mileage than delo 400 . I wonder if adding a bit of GM eos (engine oil suppliment ) wouldn't be some added insurance for your expensive mechanical cam .

The diesel oil is losing the additives as well. The scheduled time is in 08. I run the 20w 50 valvoline in mine. I use the Delo 400 to break em in.

Do the "racing" oils have all the additives still in them. Like valvoline vr-1 racing oil?

terry you hit it on the head, oil are losing the zinc in them. i just pick my motor up at the builder and asked that question on oil and he said run the oil that you trust and have had good luck with but add one QUART of delo for the zinc. he said to use this for the solid lift cams.

I ran Delo 400 in my 77 El Camino. But I did 18 wheeler repair, so oil never cost me anything. 5 gallon buckets. If you needed 42 gallons for a oil change, the customer got charged for the whole thing, and we had 3 gallons to use in our cars or trucks.

It was a stock 350, but I never had any problems. We used more Delo than Rotela.

I used to use Mobil one, but have changed to valvoline synthetic.
I am looking at Redline and AMSOIL products.
I used Castrol for Dino oil

I have found that Valvoline seems to hold up in the engines better, it starts with a better base oil. I have heard good things about Royal Purple and Amsoil, but never used them myself.

I use Delo-400 15-40 in my daly driver and valvoline 20-50 in my LUV and yes the good cam lube is going away but i bet the racing oils will have it (what better way to sell your product ).Oh and the reason i like the Delo is it is a high detergent oil and really helps keep the engine clean.
