Get a wiring diagram and check it out carefully. There is a lot to it if you are like me, and not a wiring expert. As far as the neutral safety switch is concerned, my old truck, (74 Luv 350/Powerglide) didn't have one. My brother needed to go to the store, and I explained it to him once again so he would be aware and would not start it in drive and run over something. At that time the starter wasn't working right and it had to be started by crawling under the truck and touching to two points with a screwdriver. He did that, but the truck was in reverse instead of neutral or park, and started backing up. It happened too fast for him to get out from under it and he grabbed the tierod and pushed against it as the truck slid him down the driveway. The wheels turned left because he was pushing as hard as he could. My driveway was on a steep incline and the truck quickly moved to the right about three and a half feet and caught the rear bumper of my van where it finally came to a stop. All that movement took no more than ten seconds, and I was in the house and never heard a thing. He came in with half of his ear ripped off, and we jumped in the truck, (still running) and I took him to the hospital to get it sewn back together. His nice clothes were torn up and he had chassis grease all over his hands, arms, and face. He looked like he had been run over, and we got some real looks when we got to the hospital. That was never going to happen to me because I knew exactly what was going on and how to fix it. So if you can 100% guarantee that leaving your neutral safety unhooked will never contribute to any kind of accident, leave it disconnected.
