In those days the side pipes were usually just for looks. The rear pipes were the choice of the time, remember the Monza tips, I had 4 on my LUV in the mid 80's. It is kinda funny now that I think about it, I can't stand the "fart" cans on the ricers but loved my Monza tips with the straight pipe. Does this mean I am getting old?

My dad used to tell me stories about how they'd have a switch to block the side pipes unless they were at the track, or a section they could install quickly. That way they could drive the streets with a nice, relatively quiet exaust note and avoid attention from the law, and then have the straight open side pipes at the track...
