I don't remember the specifics of the original LUV ditributer, so here's some basic troubleshooting steps for weak spark:
1) Check the plug gap, make sure it is correct for the application
2) Do those have points? Check point gap and condition of points.
3) Set base timing. Position cyl. 1 at TDC, and then set the dist. in place for that.
4) If you are still seeing a weak spark, test the resisiteance of the plug and coil wires - if there's an issue with the wires, it'll hamper spark.
5) Once you get the base timing close, try getting it to fire with a can of starter fluid.

If you can get it to fire up with starter fluid, then you might have better luck determining what the fueling problem is. But the first problem to solve is getting it to run on it's own fire...

Hope that helps...

You might also check your fuseable links...they will be the two wires coming off of you battery...then check all your ignition-related wiring.

Figure out whether you have a good solid 12 volts to all of the necessary ignition parts and check carefully to make sure everthing electrical is hooked up right.

Every time this has happened to me...it's always just something simple I overlooked.

put it up on TDC on #1 and pop off the dist. cap, and see if it is on#1 or #4. That will tell you if your are 180 out.

Check the voltage to the coil then backtrack.

 make sure your points are clean.set and rub block lubed then check for voltage. To check turn on ign. hold end of coil wire then break points open with screw driver then if you use at least 10 swear words then your points are working. I just couln't help my self.

ok, first I'm sorry you're having this problem. Second, My truck was down two weeks with the same problem, would turn over but no spark. As other's have already told you, check all the wires with a tester. Make sure you have power to the coil, etc. And here's the most important part, I replaced my Points, (didn't adjust them right), replace the condesor, (didn't tighten it enought) and here's the kicker, make sure all the wires are attached. (didn't realize my wire from the coil to the distributor had come off!!!!) I rechecked everything and when I found the wire hanging, reattached it and the engine fired right up. Came close to pulling the ignition switch to check that out. All I'm saying is when we get frustrated, we tend to forget a few little things, and that frustrates us even more.
Good luck
