I have a Chevy Turbo 350 3-speed Auto trans installed by a previous owner, and need some help locating where the reverse light switch is...

Currently all tail lights except the reverse lights work, and I'd like to get them re-enabled. I believe the truck did come stock with an auto, but the 350 was installed along with the Buick 231 V6.

Any ideas on where to look for the switch would be appreciated, I still need to check the connections at the bulbs also.

I'm kind of putting together the checklist of items to go through for when I'm not working every weekend, or get home when it's light out, and the weather warms up at least a little bit... (Currently just below freezing and snowing slightly here.)

Isnt there an electrical print of the stock LUV stuff in the info section prior to selecting the message boards?

Do you have a factory floor shifter auto T-Handle assembly?
If so, there was suppose to be a switch in there...along side the stamped gear selector detent-cam piece...
Isnt it this (if you have this console shifter set-up)?
item # 14 in the first image....

Here is 2 pics from an extra factory LUV auto floor shifter showing where that switch is:

I think the switch on a 350 turbo should be mounted on the tranny somewhere by the shift hookup. Might be wrong but I think it screws into the tranny, not sure

Thanks for the info guys, the answers so far should get me started. I think that the shifter must be stock. I'll get a picture soon, as the diagram is very similar - but it's hard to tell.

The www page is a customized blogger template - you can sign up for Blogger (http://www.blogger.com), pick one of their templates, and then customize pretty heavily. So, the layout, colors, and images are all mine, but the blogger software generates the pages for me for each "post". :)

We have another member who's good with computers and that's TumwaterTaz. You two might be good buddies. I know I'd love to learn from either of ya. TumwaterTaz has an awesome website too.

another thing you can do is hook up a toggle switch to the reverse light you have to turn them on when you back up and remeber to shut them off that what i did when i had to get mine inspected now i dont have them anymore. i know it is kinda ghetto to do but it also depends on why you want to have them.

Now that it's staying above the solid-water mark, and I won't be working this weekend, maybe I'll get a chance to look into the switch. I also have a new ignition swith and door lock cyls to install as well as a decent, properly sized seatcover...

Pretty soon I need to get a towbar, haven't searched for one yet, any ideas one where to find one online? :)

Hopefully going out to the inlaws for some firewood this weekend...

I dont have any reverse lights on my truck either. Must be a turbo 350 thing? I have the wiring diagram but i was never sure on what where the right wires for it so i dont use it. My setup sounds the same with the 231 and turbo 350 3-speed so if you have any questions might be able to help you out alittle bit. I'll look into the wires and see if i can get back to you.

Ok thats it :? Just for your info the backup light switch on the turbo 350 trans is very rare as the back up switch is normally part of the neutral start switch either on the floor or the steering collum. Just about shifter made has the switchs as part of the unit if it is not there one can be put back on as they are just small micro switches.

Figured out what the problem with the reverse lights was - the sockets are shot.

Anybody got a spare set of tailight housings? Don't need the lenses, but could use seals with those... for a '78

You can buy new sockets at the flaps. I have used on them on american and german cars. Pull yor old-bad socket and see if what they have. Autozone or others should have some. On some I have just used the insides, when the only part that was bad were the spring and terminals.

yeah, but part of the problem is that the bolts holding the housings in place are shot as well, so once off, they aren't going to go back on...

I'll leave it until I get replacements (back burner.)

My 318 daily driver needs a steering rack and some bushings first... clunk clunk.

do you have state safety inspections? I'd say screw'em if ya don't. And if you cant see where you're goin backwards at night, just take a flashlight and shine it out your rear window. hehe, dont forget to laugh....
