So, I just bought my second LUV, the first (a stock '76) was totalled when a lady talking on her cell phone ran a red light. *sigh*

This one is a pretty basic ride, needs a little work to make it a really nice. But I'd like to start with the basics: I've never owned a Buick, and would like to know the best place to get information on maintenance.

Any tips would be appreciated, and if there are any questions, I'd be happy to try and answer. Some research may be required... :)

I'll post some pics and a few more details in a while. Need to spend time cleaning up the yard after the big storm we had last week here in Seattle.

Edelbrock Carb and intake manifold, not sure of the specs yet. Need to take a closer look when the weather is a little nicer.

Tuesday it's getting an alignment and brake check.

Hi Stephen and Wendy,
My wife and I have a '78 LUV all stock and I'm rebuilding the engine. We're in Covington. Some time we'll meet. Welcome to the Forum.

Looks great, any interior pic's. I know we are never happy with just a couple of pic's. Make sure you e-mail Ben the pic's so he can start a gallery under your name.

Buy the way the paint and chrome look good and the engine swap looks like someone took some time on the install.

Oh by the way there are thousands of 200R4's that will bolt into your truck for a overdrive to save fuel while you are cruising.

That trans cable looks like one from an overdrive trans...

What trans are you running in that V6 LUV?

How is the performance with that V6?

How well does that radiator cool as well?

:?

stephenhj :

Take a look at that site TJ suggested!
I think there are a few good things there offered on that .com site.
I did a small search just typing in 231 V6 and searched thru his advanced search and isolated the Engine threads.
Looks like you can do a few good performance mods on that if you swap the right parts.
One guy suggested using a set of GN heads.
Another was a specific 4.1 intake that might? use a quadrajet.
But I see you already have an Edelbrock/Weber unit...I think that's what I see on yours.
Neat truck!

Trans is a "380 auto" according to the previous owner. I haven't researched it fully yet... :) Not quite an impulse buy, but close.

The performance is fairly impressive as far as I can tell so far - It needs an alignment (badly) and we are having the brakes checked/serviced as well, so that limits how much I can play with it so far. We need to be very smooth on the throttle with it, as it will spin a tire easily with a heavy foot.

Radiator reportedly cools just fine, as I learn more about the truck, I'll build a website with full details about what I learn.

Question for Admins: is there a LUVTruck.com logo that I can use for link-backs?

Other answers:
WheelinGuy: Found it on Craigslist, yes. :)

Luvrv8: No interior pics yet. Those will go on it's page when I get a little time. It's pretty basic, mostly stock (including wear) and will be mainly a work truck.

My daily driver is a 1991 BMW 318is. A little more comfortable, and more fun in the curves... ;)

You get your brakes working good lower that thing about 4 inches, and throw some low profile tires on it and you will be suprised to find that you have a "new daily driver" :)

Report from the mechanic...

Leaky tranny pan (was afraid of that...)
Frozen caliper (that one's spendy...)
Bad battery cable.

So that with an alignment and balanced wheels should make it a good driver for the Missus till we get her MINI Cooper back.

My bimmer grips better, is much more comfortable and is a 5 speed, but the truck would be better at the strip for sure. I'm not much of a truck driver...
