have a 79 4x4 that Ineed to hook up the guage in the dash that shows temp ,what color are the wires where are the wires located underhood. thanks

the sending unit under the hood is under the intake manifold centered about midpoint between 1st and 2nd cylinders, about 2-3 inches from the engine. the "hot" wire from sending unit has a simple clip that hooks on the post of the sending unit. i think the wire itself is black or dark green, but I'm "slightly" colorblind. oh, well, that is the location on my '79 4x4.

give that a try. u might haf'ta look with a small mirror, if everything is in place under the hood. ...aft of the distributor.

It is sort of a slide on connector, and the wire should be black with a yellow stripe. The sensor is directly under the thermostat housing and feels a lot like the end of a bolt when looking for it by feel. The wire should come off the inner fender sort of near the coil and the wire that heads down to the distributor.
