Seems we should all pool together to have these made up!

I could care less if I had the bead spreader or not; one less thing to worry about!

Just as a quick reminder, the rear glass rubber is not available, be careful.

They are tuff to find used in good condition and not available new. I do come across them from time to time, I did sell Ben my best one. Like I said be careful when pulling the rear rubber.

Yeah,

Since this post is about head liners. Could anyone tell me the best method of dying the head liner? I am afraid of using the normal method of using marhyde because it appears to be slightly fragile. How is the spray dye?

That is what I was thinking about BlackLuv80. My headliner is in good shape but when a previous owner painted the roll cage he got over spray on the headliner. I was wondering how vinyl spray paint would work?? A few years ago I redid an '83 Chevy pickup and repainted the dash and door panels. Turned out real good.

Yeah my question would be how would you properly clean it w/o ripping it so you could dye it. I know if you don't clean them well they will peel like crazy.

I would be scared to use my normal method of cleaning with thinner, because I would be afraid it will eat the head liner up.

I live next door to a Chevy dealer and I know the manager of the body shop real well. He is the one who got me the paint and he also gave me some vinyl cleaner but I can't remember what it was called. This summer my dad painted the dash for his pickup and the guy told him to use charcoal lighter fluid. I personally would not want to use that. My dad had a paint store mix him up some paint in spray bomb form. The paint I used was for a spray gun.

Lighter fluid eh?

Haven't heard that one in a while. I have been told it leaves a film. But if he is manager of a dealership he most know something. I was just told to use carb cleaner then whip it with a towel.

We normally use medium reducer to clean the surface. But i was just thinking how the texture is of the head liner it would be hard to remove everything off of it. therefor leaving enough to eat into it.

I'm no body man. I would probably use the reducer like you mentioned. But like I said I'm no body man!!!

I would have to agree with you and don't blame you for not wanting to do that. I may just leave well enough alone after reading all the info on the headliner!!!

I think I will just use a rag with medium reducer and just not use much and pray for the best. It shouldn't be that big of deal I guess. I just didn't want to replace anything I didn't have to.

So is anyone still replacing their hood liner??? Or is everyone scared now??? lol.

If you do, arm yourself with a bucket load of spring loaded clothes pegs. Use adhesive and then peg the liner around the lip and leave it for the glue to dry.

You need lots and lot of pegs.

I just used the door molding to hold it in place, did the front and back and then the sides. Worked great, just make sure you dont go glue crazy and glue the molding to the headliner! 8O

The problem with the windshield rubber is if its the original the it is probably glued to the cab in spots and you tear it trying to remove it.I replaced mine last summer and believe me it was a pain so make sure you have plenty of soapy water handy.

BlackLuv80: Have you tried this yet? I am thinking about just taking my headliner out and not put it back in. I got some thinner from work that I could try it mine first to see what happens.

Haven't done it with this one on my LUV but done it with a VW bug yesterday. Worked well. I actually used medium reducer stead of virgin thinner to prevent meltage.
