What type of intake system does this 3.0 use?
I mean, is it something of a specialty, or are these naturally aspirated(carb)?

oh yeah! in austrailia they have twin cam g161/180/200 motors. the share almostr all the same parts as the single cam versions, but have a twin cam head. thing is, the twin cam head will not swap over to the single cam block. another thing that as different about them, is the starter is in the opposite side of the block. so to run a MSG or normal gasoline gearbox is to get a bellhousing from a diesel tranny and mate it to the box.

ive heard these motor are quite rare now, and hardly anyone make a complete rebuilt for the ones that still exsist.

My 3.0 mercruiser has a carb and manifold, it woud be easy to install in a LUV.

I just walked out to look at it, it looks like a small block set up without measuring it, the starter is bolted like a small block as well, 2 bolts on the block.

sweet action! that would be a sweet motor to put in a luv!

people ask you what you got in it, and say, "its a 3 liter 4 banger."

RPM's top out at 4800. I was surprised of the power it has, It push's my 20 foot boat to 48 MPH, 46 with a skiier.

4800 rpms isnt bad at all. i wonder if you did some balance work and a cam you could get the rpms up there a little more.

sounds like that engine could have alot of potential.

That 2.5 I had years ago was in a basic boat, and I was pretty sure it used a sbc/bbc chevy trans bolt pattern on the back of the block as well...but I am guessing!
That 3.0 sounds like an interesting thought!
Same block? Different Bore/Stroke combo?
I wonder... :?

Most of the Mercruisers I've seen have a GM bolt pattern. And the 2.5 4 cylinders go back to the 60's era Chevy II's. They transformed to the vega powerplant as an aluminum block with hideous results. They went back to mostly iron blocks and powered a lot of small GM cars in the 70's and 80's and on into some base S 10's. Hope this helps.

To comment on the subaru motor thing, I think it would be a trip to see one in a luv.

There are a few different motor configurations that would suit but only 1 would be the best. The 2.5 ltr. semi closed deck STi motor, bigger turbo can easily reach 400/400 with 100 octane. From there it would just be down to bolting up your choice of 5 speed with a modified bell housing.

The marine motor witch also is the same that Hyster uses is a 3.0 (181) and has 120-140 HP(depending on the year) and a ton of torq. This is what i want to use with a 700R4 in a LUV trk. and preferably a 4X4 trk.The power difference i believe is from a 1 brl. and a 2 brl. carb.

Available engines for the Chevy II included a 153 in³ four-cylinde
============================================

The Iron Duke (also called the 2500, 151, Pontiac 2.5, Cross Flow, and Tech IV, though the decal on the air filter assemblies actually reads "4 Tech") was a 2.5 L (151 in³) I4 piston engine. All Iron Dukes were built by Pontiac beginning in 1977 and ending in 1993.

The Iron Duke is often confused with Chevrolet's Stovebolt-derived 153 from the 1960s Chevy II, but the engines are entirely different - the Iron Duke's intake manifold is on the passenger side, as opposed to the driver side. One thing that both share is the Chevrolet Small-Block bell housing bolt pattern

My old 72 had a nissan 4 banger with a 4 speed tranny. Worked great. Came out of a Datsun B210. Guy still has it and was thinking about buying it back. I allready swapped the front discs to it. Sold it for 300 running.

The high torque of a fork lift eng. in a 4X would be a lot of fun.

When I met my wife she had a 78 Celica. I had the eng ( I think it was a 20 R) rebuilt and added a weber and a cam. The paper said it would be higher torque with very little to no "wap wap" at idle.
That little car hauled a$$! I should have never sold it.
