Over the years Ive seen different configurations of the 4-cylinder engine.
I wondered, I myself without any great knowledge of all 4-cylinder motors made, has anyone thought of doing a different 4-cylinder motor besides the Isuzu version?
I have seen Cosworth Vega 4-cylinder engines; that would be a neat trick in a LUV, and they made a 5-speed manual as well.
Thought that this would be a neat transplant.

I also recall that GM made a 2.0 (2.5?) Liter marine 4-cylinder, If I am correct.
From what I recall of it, it seemed pretty solid.

Reason I am tossing this up for discussion is that Farmer Joe speaks occasionally of Turbo set-ups and I wondered haow well the Isuzu motor would do to adding that Turbo, if not a Cosworth Vega Motor or even the latter mentioned engine.

What would be good alternative 4-cylinder variations for the LUV?

i saw in a super chevy mag, a smokey yunik tuned vega with a turboed blow through 4 banger. that would be pretty neat in a luv.

ive never seen the iron duke type motor in the luv either. like the "mericruiser"? not sure whay it was called, but evolved into the 2.5 thats in the old s10s. ive seen some 2.5s that were ticked out with alchy injection and magnetos for circle track racing. ive head some good things about em. i think you can also put the jeep 2.5 head on them too. not sure though.

if it were me id go with a toyota motor. i know its kinda sacreligious, but they displace 2.4L stock and have a cult following for performance parts. ive seen lots of 350whp 22r's too. lots of good combos out there to get power. hell stock theyre powerhouses.

now if i were to go with an isuzu motor, id probably stay with the GXXX series. all the ones ive had have been awsome little motors even if they are only 2.0s. theres a re a couple zu engines that id like to build. theres the compression motor, and the turbo motor. compression motor would be a impulse G200 bottom end, with an aussie G160 head with the big valves. then some trick carb system and a nice header.
then the turbo motor would be a G200 truck motor with and impulse G200 head and a big turbo and boost the crap put of it.

My Mom had an RX3, that thing really scooted!

Arent the rotary motors rather compact?
That might fit well, but no experiences with those motors...

There are several D-50's and mighty max's with the Eclipse motor in them. Funny thing, I have a 95 Mighty Max and I just pulled a motor from a Eclipse GSX, now why would I do that?

yeah the rotaries are tiny as all get out. there was a 1st gen rx7 down at the local speed shop a while back that has a tircked out 1.3l 2 rotor in it and it hauled ass! the motor mounts on the rotories are on the front like a saddle type, so putting it a luv would be a snap!

nope. the GSX motor is a mitsubishi made motor. the G161/180/200 are all the same family of motor that comes stock in the 76-87 isuzu vehicles. the g series is what i have in both of my trucks.

the mitsu motors are something i dont know alot about.

We in the Mitsu world call them the G series motors, most start with the 4G#, so that is why I thought you were refering to the "G" motor in mitsu.

Ok, so what was the motor for a 75 back to 72 called, and how did it differ from the current G series engines of today?

the 72-75 motor were also called a g180. thing is, it was a non-crossflow motor. the later Gxxx motors (76-87) were crossflow motors.

when i refer to an early motor, i call it the non crossflow motor.

Is that based upon the Intake/Exhaust routing that they called them differently?
