you will have to have a shop make you one... I was thinking of trying to make one like the newer cars but haven’t had time yet so I don’t know how it will turn out but they don’t look that hard to make and you can buy
the material at Joann’s

If you want a modern looking liner, talk to Tilted. His liner looks like a later model GM. If you want original looking, carefully remove the old one and take it to a shop. They can sell you the material you want or make a new replacement headliner.

Sorry Blue, my headliner was made out of the same material as my seats were, a blue velour. I took the old headliner to SewFine, the place that made all my interior, they just copied the pattern and sewed in the support rods (there are 2 of them that run side to side to give it the shape) from the old one and left each side a little longer so I could trim it to fit. Having the windshield out and the sunroof in my truck made it a lot easier to install plus the back window out. I couldnt of imagined doing it with the glass in. I centered it and then screwed the trim ring of the sunroof over it to hold it in place and then worked the front and back and then the sides.
Pics are here
http://home.comcast.net/~chevymetalhead/trucks/luv/interior.htm

With the sunroof, there really isnt much headliner material in mine, best bet is like you said, take the old one to an upholstry shop to make another one

It looks like it's all one piece. Fooled me! From the pics i remember seeing awhile back, i thought that it was custom pressboard and then the sunroof was added.
It still looks more modern than the original.

SewFine is the top aircooled VW interiors supplier. My Chop topped VW Type 3 Squareback has a SewFine kit in it. Very nice products. I didn't know they did other type of cars-trucks too.

Anyone still use Tweed for the interior?

I Have seen some nice use of tweed. One full size truck had a raised Chevy emblen in the roof in a contrasting color. It appeared to be padded or something making it set correctly with no metal bows Just nice looking.

You can buy the padded headliner material like the new cars use. Thin foam and is just glued to the metal

Yep, thats them!! They are here in Denver (Littleton, right across the street from where I played softball). Back in the 90's they use to do mintruck stuff also (I think they use to advertise in Mini-Truckin). I found out about them at one of the mini truck/bug shows I showed in. So I got to know them a little bit and they went above and beyond to make everything for my truck. The door panels were a prototype design they were doing at the time and didnt put them in production, so I am the only one with that design (not like it would be hard to copy! ) At the time they had the door panel templates and had the custom seat mounts made for the LUV, doubt they do any more as that was about 15 years ago. I dont hear anything about them anymore but check to see if they are still there everytime I am down that way. Here is thier website.

I think that is pretty cool you knew about them Papa G!!!!

They did come out with a door panel that must be based on yours. It is in VW stuff. Your's was their inspiration I would guess. You made the VW world have a more modern option.

My interior in my squareback is a more traditional. It is Red and White. My car is Red.

Maybe they kept patterns from your truck where anyone could get some door panels or other pices.

Neither could i.
To get a lasting result you have to have the glass out.
The rubbers around the glass hold the lining inplace.

Good point Bob that I didnt expand on. The headliner needs to wrap around the edges of the roof on the windows and doors to stay in place. If you just tuck it in the rubber molding it will pull out and not stay tight. And they broke my windsheild taking it out!!! 8O I was getting a new one anyway so it didnt matter in my case, they warned me that with the curve of the window, it would be tough to get out with out breaking. Then you got the rubber seal problem now too. Man I am glad I did all this stuff back in the day!!!

Thats not good to hear since I have ordered a new rubber molding for my windshield. because mine was cracking and dry rotted. I had have plans to replace it without buying a windshield.

Nice headliner btw Tilted

Sew Fine Products puts out some really nice stuff, Thanks for the link.

My windshield is Lexan screwed to the cab. So it shouldn't break taking it out. When I had my door jam trim pieces off I saw how it was wrapped around and tucked under the trim.

Black Luv, if your rubber is rotted, you can just cut it out and shouldnt have any problems, they were trying to save mine as it was in good shape still with the chrome trim but as he was trying to get it out, it started ripping in a few places being so old so they had to replace that also with a moulding that wouldnt take the chrome trim.

Wildluvracing, yep the headliner at back and front windows are tucked around that way also.

Tilted, thanks for the info. I may try and take my windshield out this weekend if time permits.

Just as a quick reminder, the rear glass rubber is not available, be careful.

Thanks Luvrv8,

Not sure if you was meaning the problem I am having or the door glass.

Alright I bought my windshield rubber from a little company down here called service auto glass, but they don't carry the rear glass rubber in stock. I need the rear rubber for a Luv, mine was damaged while removing the solid back glass to replace it with a sliding back glass. :(

Advise anyone? Do they still make em or do I need to start searching for them in junk yards.
