Here is the new question on the line. . . . My exhaust on my 305 isn't that loud, simply because the pipe diameter isn't too big.

So I was thinking header straight to a moon sidepipe, no muffler, no worries about clearances or anything, but it just seems like if I keep the tubing near the same size and just massage out the kinks it will be fine.

They make a diffuser cone to go inside a header collector. If the set up you're talking about is too loud after you try it, this might be just the ticket to keep away from a ticket.
