stay away from the 12 bolt a 9'' is going to be much cheaper and easier.

Actually If You Go Through Yukon It's Really About The Same. Plus Some People Like To "Keep There GM, All GM" Which I Can Respect That.

What Type of Fuel Injection Are You Going With? Cause TBI Wouldn't Be Worth The Hassle In My Opinion. I Would Go TPI With A 383, You Have To Go With A Certain One Can't Member If It Is Mass Air or Speed Density.

Can't Remember Right off The Top of My Head Which One I'll Have To Inform Ya Later. But The One Set Up Allows The Stroker and A Larger Cam. If You Choose To Use One, Which Most Do.

I Think It Is Mass Air....

Are You Using A Rotating Assembly or Are You Cutting Down A 400 Crank. I Would Suggest Buying A Crank Over Cutting One Down Because It Normally Cost Around The Same Price and Most of You Aftermarket Cranks Are Stronger Then A Cut Crank. You Will Have To Notch The Block. Having It Balanced/Blue Printed Is A Must In My Opinion, Cheap Insurance.

What Do You Have or Plan To Use? Block, Rods, Heads, etc. etc.

FYI, I Am Currently Running A Carbureted 383 In My 1970 Camaro. So I Could Probably Inform Ya In Whatever You Need To Find Out. If I Can't I Am More Then Positive That Someone Here Can.

i can understand the part of wanting to stay all GM but i was thinking more in the lines of simplicity, if you want to change gears all you have to do is have another pumpkin set up and in 30 miutes you can have the pumpkin swapped out. the 9'' in my heads up car including narrowing,35 spline mosers and spool was less that 650.00, i already had the gears but 9'' gears ar dirt cheap anyway. :)

Yeah I Too Favor The 3rd Member Over The C-Clips But What I Was Saying Is Price Is Getting To Where Theres Not Much Difference Between The Two.

http://www.ring-pinion.com/

Is A Good Supplier Of Good Quality Parts At A Cheap Prices.

We Either Go With Them Richmond, or Strange.

I Just Was Mainly Saying A 12 Bolt Can Be Built Pretty Cheap As Well. It Just Manley Depends on What He Prefers.

I Prefer A 9" Ford For The Same Reasons You Just Stated.

you are right on prices, i think prices have come down alot in the past 5 years and if you do it right a 12 bolt can be bulletproof. I am looking into turning my buick into a Real Street race car and one of the rules is you have to run a gm rear. we have several local guys who are running this class with over 1000 hp and the rears are withstanding it.

Do you know that you can get the pumpkin and use 12 bolt gear in a 9" housing?Money wise the 9" is the better choice but so is a 8.8 out of a Ford Exploder (ah Explorer).

Yeah I Know...But It Still Was GM Right?....GM Sold It, Weather Isuzu Made It or Not. Strange Concept I Guess.

Yeah I Agree A 12 Bolt In the Proper Hands Can Be Every Bit As Strong As A 9".

The Tremec TKO-500 Is Rated To Handle 500 ft. lbs of Torque and The Tremec TKO-600 Is Rated To Handle 600 ft. lbs. of Torque. So The Biggest Problem Will Be Making Sure The Engine Doesn't Surpass These Limits..

Which In My Experience A 383 Normally Puts Out Around 400-550 ft. lbs. of Torque. I Have Seen More and Less Just That Seems To Be The Average.

Why the 383? Thats what I run and wish I would have went bigger. I am a firm believer in there is no substitute for cubic inches. I guess it matters what you are going to use it for, dont get me wrong a 383 is tough, mine has twisted 8000+ and is still living. :D

No Replacement For Displacement. Bigger Is Better....Yeah I Must Agree But If Thats What His Heart Is Set on Then Go For It. My 383 Surprised Me Actually. I Wasn't Expecting That Much From It Then It Surprised Me Again When I Found Out I Was Only Running Correctly on 7 Cylinders Due To A Warn Out Valve Guide. I Think As Long As He Builds it Right He Will Be Happy For The Moment. Until The Little Tim Taylor In All of Us Kicks In and Says MORE POWER!....lol
