Well, I bought an 82 4x4 diesel and the front cv boots are both torn. I picked up rebuilt axle assemblies for both sides and am preparing to take out the old and put in the rebuilt. I am relatively new to auto repair (have done a few clutches, brakes, hoses, timing etc but not axles). Any advice?

I have the factory manual for the Isuzu P'up which I understand is the same truck. I was reading through old postings and some folks said to take off the whole axle assembly (pumpkin and all). Does that make sense in this case? Can I just dissassemble the parts from the hubs inward and pull out the axle on each side or is it better to take off the whole thing? Some seemed to make it sound easy and others made it sound horrible.

Too many years ago when I had my 79 4x4 luv. Someone stole out in a Mall parkihg lot a week before CHRISTmas in '82.

Don't give up... The guys who know this stuff, are killing of some Tur-duc-kin and will not move for a few days. Don't know what TUR-DUC-KIN is just pull it up on the internet. It is almost food to die for.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone

Well...it sucked! I had to pull the whole axle assembly by removing most of the steering stuff, loosening the lower control arms, removing the 4 steering box bolts that hold it to the frame (since the idler arm and especially the pitman arm where impossible to remove...broke the pitman arm remover and hurt my shoulder in the process), after the wheels, hubs, calipers, rotors etc.

According to the book the axle assemblies just come out oncle you remove the 4 bolts attaching the axle mounting braket to the pumpkin. Really I had to use a pry bar to get it out and then I had to remove a few snap rings, a bearing and a seal on the inside of the mounting bracket. The seal is VERY hard to find so be careful pulling it out.

I hope this helps some one...
