i know it can be done. anything can be done, but is it worth the hassle? just how hard would it be? i think maybe a 292 with a v8 t-5 would be plenty for a daily driver. i have a 350/th350 combination that i could put in one. if need be. i just fear the gas mileage. plus i want to use that engine/trans in a camaro body. tell me if ya'll think it's not worth it. 'cause i don't want to get myself in a situation i won't be able to recover from. any input is appreciated.

I would think it could be done. Have a look at the picture area of this site, there are a ton of pic's with several different combo's that I am sure some one said "that cant be done". I know when I put 33X18.5's under my LUV, several told me I couldn't do it, so again I am sure it could be done. Several have told me that it is a waste of time and money as well. Well it was my time and I enjoyed doing it. The money thing, sure I can't get back what I put in it but I don't care.

Inline 6 Should Fit Closely To Where A 350 Sits...Be A Tight Fit For The Long Son Of A Gun But It Should Work

you'd get better mpg with v8. the 292 used to get about 13-14 has long as you kept your foot out of it

292 are good engines but you will be happier with a 350

I would think a newer trailblazer / colorado 4 /5/ 6 cylinder would be a better choice than a 292/250 . My wifes trailblazer has like 295 hp i6 and it will run . A programmer would bring out more . I'll have to take measurements though .

another thing you need to take into consideration is the wieght factor. a full iron straight 6 weighs in at a hefty 600+ lbs. thats alot of weight at not alot of HP. that and you wouldnt want all that weight on the front end anyways.

weight def. is a factor. i didn't think those old 292's were that heavy. heck a fully dressed 350 with a transmission only weighs about 4-500 pounds more. redluv80 how did you get 25 mpg with a 290 hp 350? i know these little trucks don't weigh too much. just curious as to what kind of tuning and driving did you do? did you have an O/D? i was just looking at building a reliable fun daily driver so i could sit the c/10 in the garage where it is safe till a sunny weekend. driving it in the rain sucks. it tried to get away from me earlier. right now i got a smogger era 350 4 bolt main with those sorry 882 heads. i think i could mill a couple cc's off of them and gain a little static compression. if i rebuild it, it's getting forged pistons. ya'll know what that leads to. i've thought about sitting it into a 3rd gen camaro body. right now i've got most of the stuff to do either a camaro or a v8 luv. thanks for the advice and replys.

GM.... LoL I Wasn't Talking About My Truck, I Was Saying My Camaro My Camaro When It Was Factory Was A Completely Stock All Original 1970 350 W/ A TH 350. It Did Have 308 In It Though.

The Engine It Self Had Flat Tops, 3932441 Heads On It, Steel Crank, All In A 3970010 Block. The Engine Had Manifolds, and A Cast Iron Intake W/ A 500 CFM Rochester Carburetor.

Only Thing I Did Is Adjust The Timing And Tune The Carb, But Heck It Still Would Run On Pretty Good. Out Ran Alot Of The Big Bad 5.0 Mustangs and Did It With A Completely Stock 1970 Set Up. Plus I Was Getting 25+ MPG
High Octane Fuel And Lead Additives Where Used Alot.

A fully dressed 350 weighs in at 575lbs the 292 is close but is longer and taller it would fit if you dog house the fire wall but a 4.3 would be a whole lot better and i would use the V-8 if you have one

308s Only Help On The Highway Stop n Go Traffic Means More Work To Get Them Moving. Yeah It Was A 1970 1/2

I6 Was A Ok Design But They Make A Better Paper Weight

I Agree w/ TJ If You Wanna Go Six Cylinder Go With A 4.3 They Run On Pretty Darn Good, Great Fuel Economy, and Little Torque Monsters.

But Also Said If You Can Round Up A V8 It Would Show A Lot More Results For The Same Amount Of Work.

thanks for the input guys. i'll probably just end up doing a v8 or a v6. for the work input a v8 would return much more. just that gas is so expensive these days.

redluv you don't happen to be a member of nastyz28.com do you? if you aren't you should be. it's a great site for 2nd gens.
