Hey guys, I saw this site a few weeks ago and I've been checking it everyday since. I always wanted a luv and I was finally able to track down an '80 long bed 4 speed on ebay up in Virginia. I managed to score it for 200$. I adjusted the carb and set the timing, but after it warms up it has a real dead spot about 2/3 of the way into the throttle. After messing with the carb a few times,I took the air cleaner off and found some sort of solenoid on the back side of the carb that was just dangling by its wire. Its supposed to be held on with three small screws but they have long since gone. I was told that this is probably a mixture control solenoid and most likely the reason I have the dead spot. Anybody know for sure what this is and maybe where I can find one. Any and all help would be appreciated. I am familar with cars and trucks but this is my first luv

Thanks,

Darrell

Sounds like you closed your eyes when you raised the hood!!!!!!!

It is the electric choke.

You might need to rebuild your carburetor.

No I know its not the electric choke. This is on the back side (facing the valve cover) and covers a port on the carburator. The truck runs just fine cold, but as soon as the temp gauge starts to come up to temp it starts to have the dead spot in the carburator. If anyone had an exploded view of the carb that would be great, as I havent found one on the internet, and I havent gotten out to get a manual on this truck yet.

Thanks

there are two solenoids on a luv carb. the fuel cut off sol. and the coasting richer sol. if it's the fuel cutoff sol and the wires aren't hooked up you wouldn't get any fuel... duh so it sounds like your coasting richer solenoid. i have mine bypassed. it doesn't serve a huge purpose from what i understand. do a search for coasting richer solenoid in here. you'll find a post where 800xl told me all about it. good luck

I think the one on the valve cover side of the carb is the coasting richer solenoid. It comes into play only in 3rd and 4th gear with your foot off the gas pedal and the clutch pedal out. If it is not connected to the carb, then it would not really be doing anything, except maybe causing a slight vacuum leak.
