I was scrounging thru the local junkyards today and i found a replacement radiator core support for my LUV. They'll have it cut out for me by Saturday. I also found a Chevy Vega hatchback that looked pretty good body-wise. I heard that these cars will rust away overnight. Is this true? I'm tempted to concider this as a platform for a 1/4 mile only machine. Mount kits are all over the Internet so this is a positive aspect. But if the bodies have a tendency to crumble away, i will drop the idea.
Anyone got some insight of the Vega?

I'll take a stab at this post, knowing I'm risking getting hammered from the vega lovers. A vega makes a great race car in stock bodied form until around the 9.9 1/4 mile mark. The car has a tendency to wander on the top end of the track due to air getting under the car and lifting the front. My buddies and I have had several and the tendency was the same for all. Chassis work, spoilers and air dams will all help. Monzas tend to work better when the et's get lower. Again this is from our personal experience. Again, I don't want to offend any one with a vega, because I'd have another one in a heartbeat. I'm just trying to help someone out.

I Too Have Heard That About The Thousand Foot Mark The Nose Tends To...Float. My Uncle Has One Here In Town. He Solved This Problem By First Basically Slamming It. Then Using A Front Air Down. He Is Currently Running a Merlin 632 W/ Big Chief Heads. And You Can Ask RedLuv80 It Sounds Pretty With Zoomies. His Only Prob Now Is Hooking Even Though He Has Tubed The Living Bajessuses Out Of It and Four Linked It. I Believe Its The Tire Compound He Is Running Believe There Are Call M/T Indy's or Something I Told Him He Needs To Run A Straight Slick or Drag Radials. But Enough Of My Rambling.

My Opinion is... Well Due To Late "Jungle Jim" Liberman
I Would Have To Say...... I Love The Little Bastards...lol But I Have Heard There Temperamental. I Specially Love The Oder Models 70-73 The Ones Nicked Named The Mini Camaro's "least around here"

Aerodynamics, Rust, and Hooking Are There Only Probs From What I Have Gathered.

We ran a big block in one to get the nose down. Then we added an air dam. This made it light in the rear. Adding a wing out back to create downforce helped a lot.

That May Be The Deal Then...It Hooked Up Fine W/ A Built 383 But The 632 Is Giving Him Problem Hooking......Can't Transfer All The Weight Properly and Breaking Lose? or Maybe Just The Added Power?..or He Might Need A Wing.. This Guy Is In His Late 40's and Drives This Car Almost Daily...W/ The 383 It Was Literally His Grocery Getter. Ain't He Living A American Dream...lol

Typical Chevy Rust problems from that era. Front cowel, front window, rear window, rockers etc. Sort of a luv truck project. It can be made to run true and straight.

A lot of short wheel base cars do not run at the drags anymore. they can be very unstable. But a blast to watch. Lots of vegas still out their, just getting harder to find good cars that are not rust buckets. Go for it, if you found one. 70-73 look like a baby Camaro

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.
