My son's 78 Luv has carb problems (Hitachi 2 bbl) and rather than rebuild it this week we thought about replacing it with a rebuilt 73 Luv Hitachi we found. Will this be a direct replacement with all the wiring plugs, etc.. the same or will we have to do some modifications? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

According to the .pdf files in the information section, the electrical connections are the same. Any bracket, linkage and plumbing differences should be minimal (if any).

It resides on the opposite side of the engine, and has a manual choke I believe. Other than that it is probably the same. Going from memory here.

Being from the wrong side of the motor could cause fuel starvation issues. Would depend how you drove it.

If you put the carb on that side will the linkages be on the wrong side of the carb???

Id also say the crossflow motor would be jetted differently.

Theres no harm in tryin it out. I would get it exhaust gas analysed on a tune up machine just to be on the safe side.

Bob.
