Is it a lot harder to swap a v8 in the 4x4 than a 2 wheel drive.

short answer is, Yes it's alot harder to swap in a V8 into a 4x4.
reasons being that you have the IFS to deal with, there just isn't enough clarence between the oil pan and the axle. to do a V8 swap in a 4x4 your pretty much have to do a SAS at the same time.

Yup Rez has it. Also i might add that an SAS would be about manditory for a V-8 swap. The reason being the 10bolt Isuzu rear can just hold a mild v-8 but the 8bolt front i dont think would have a chance.

Yeah what he said...8 bolt wouldn't handle the power too well...broken cv's, ring, spiders...all kinds of carnage.

Let me just join the club here too, even if you get past the diff being in the way of the V8 oil pan, the front end parts are just not up to handling much "abuse of power". For a V8 4x4 LUV, you might even be better off starting with a 2WD truck as that means less parts to tear off the frame to hook up a straight axle in the front.

yup these drive trains are near bomb proof with the stock engine but you start running something with 200+lb ft of torque and it will rip stuff apart...

Thanks for the input. I guess we will just try and go with an Isuzu engine and 5 speed tranny and keep it simple and for a daily highway truck. Willjust use my 2 wheel drive with my v8 for fun and games.

AH it aint that hard, I mean it is hard but once you get started it will all just fall into place. The easy part is taking the IFS out, it when you figure out what kind of axle your going to use(dana 60 and 14 bolt or yota axles)and what size springs all you have todo is measure and weld.Plus it all depends on how serious you want to get. I did a SAS on my '80 luv with a big block and all I did was I got some 8'' lift springs for a half ton chevy and one tons underneath it and it works great. 8)
