400 Is The Only SBC That Is Externally Balanced. 305 Normally Have The Big Balancer. But ARE Still Internally Balanced.

But Yes The Only Difference Between A 305 n 350 Is The Bore and Block
( Because Of The Bore )

If the 305 has a one piece rear main seal, it can only work with gen II blocks. Is this correct?
From my understanding, generation I motors can be mixed matched parts to a great degree with concideration to journal sizes of the crank. 400 small block parts can go into other displacement blocks but you need to either run the 400 flexplate/flywheel and H balancer or balance the crank and rods to use the standard Chevy flexplate/flywheel and balancer.

Visit http://www.mortec.com to get some really detailed info on the parts you have or want to use.

Gen I Can Swap W/ Gen I, And Gen II Can Swap With Gen II. They Both Are Based Off The Same Stroke, Rods, And Mains

Yeah But When You Cut Down A 400 Crank To Go Into A 350 Block You Must Still Either Use The 400 Flexplate and Balancer, or, As Already Stated, Balance It With The 350/305 Flywheel and Balancer ( I Have Personally Never Done It That Way But Have Heard Of It ) You Must Also Notch The Block For The Larger Stroke.

This By The Way Is Called A 383 Chevy Stroker Think Its A 6.3 Lt.

If You Wish To Do This I Must Say It Pays Off. I Have One In My Camaro and Even Though I Only Have 308 In The Rear It Will Move It On Pretty Good. I Can Imagen How Well It Would Do In A LUV.

It's a good idea to have the rotating assembly balanced when you assemble an engine, especially when mixing and matching parts. Before everyone chimes in, I know you can get away with it, but it's still cheap insurance. My local machine shop charged $138 on my last rotating assembly. I had to take my crank, rods, pistons, rings, main bearings, 2 sets of rod bearings, flywheel, harmonic balancer. balancer retaining bolt, and flywheel mounting bolts. If you have a standard tranny, you also take the pressure plate. You can also get an adapter to put a gen I crank in a gen II block. The last few bowtie blocks I've seen came from GM that way if you wanted a two piece block. Lastly, your later gen II blocks didn't have a place for a mechanical fuel pump. That's something to keep in mind if you want to run a carb and don't want to use an electric pump.
