do the beds on the out side have some sort of coat?when i went 4 wheelin a pice chipped off and it was about and 1/8 think maybe less but what is it? and can i fill this whole with bondo? cause i want to paint my truck next weekend but don't what to do about this? n e help would be greatly appreciated. matt

Sounds like the bed is already full of Bondo!! Sorry but the only thing that could chip off like that would be bondo.

My bed is a stepside, and i hacked the crud out of a short box. Its just sheet metal- baby.

You may have misunderstood me, i had my stepside, and borrowed some pieces from a different shortbox donor truck. Two different beds. Both were just sheetmetal.

Dont sweat the body filler. Hell even new cars have body filler on them. Granted its not alot, but if it works for new cars, it can work on old ones too. Just feather out the spot with 80 grit sand paper, refill it, sand it smooth, prime it and paint it. Peolpe always seem turned off by fillers, its not that big of a deal unless your doing a concourse restoration.
