Well today on my way home the truck seized up on me. Had to tow it home. So I pulled the radiator, loosened the belts and found the the air pump was not turning. Should this be able to turn fairly easily??
While I'm doing this I'm going to just install a new water pump and maybe even the altenater. Can you get this stuff new? Or is it all rebuilt.
My rebuilt Cordon Distributer that I just bought from Kragen came with bad points. Where can one buy quality parts?
thanks

The air pump should turn easy by hand. I would recommend NAPA for parts. I would guess all parts come in rebuilt and some parts new.

Gee Stubble, you check the oil? I did that with a Honda 350SL back when I was a teenager--did a lot of work and put the bike all together and forgot to put the oil in. Nearly killed me when it seized up a quarter mile down the road. Maybe you didn't tighten up the oil plug. I would imagine the engine is the source of the seize. It would burn up the drive belt if the emission component went bad, not stop the whole vehicle. Did the engine turn over after your removed the drive belt for the air pump?

NO, its the air pump thank god.
took the belts off and could not turn it.
everything else turns.
But now since Im down there Im going to replace everything.
air pump, water pump, belts. The alternater looks like it had been replaced previously so I will leave that.
Oredered everything from Napa.

Anything else I should replace that I might be missing?? Let me know.

thanks

Most auto parts stores will test the alternator for you for free. Check it out.

If you don't like the prce of a rebuilt smog pump or can't get one you can take it apart and clean it.It is work to take one apartthat has stuck but it can be done, generaly what happens is the pumps get electrollises from moisture and takes up the air gap inside and sticks the pump carfully clean and reasymble and it will run good as new. (what do you think the rebuilders do)I have done this many times as i don't like the overly expensive prices the charge for remans.
