 Post subject: CA Fun With Smog

$300 for carburater
350 for exhaust, new cat
100 for distributer
500 for truck
wont pass smog now, runs great though, what should I do?
spend more money to try and pass smog?

What did it fail? If you can give the details of what test (or what part of the inspection) it failed for then we can give you some ideas of what would cause those particular problems.

If you have all of the smog components on and working and have all receipts you can go to the referee and they will pass it. The smog shop that failed you should have told you this. You can call the bearu of automotive repair and have them assist you.

He said the EGR valve is not working like it should but he is going to try and bypass that???? :roll:
I have no idea.
So now he wants to charge me extra.
I am willing to take it in the tail pipe for my Luv if thats what I have to do to pass smog.

What I've seen on egr is the seat of shuttle valve in the EGR valve being built up with carbon and not closing properly. You can take the EGR valve off and clean this up. Plus, depending upon year, there's a bunch of small valves between the vacuum port and the EGR valve that need to be working and a bunch of quarter inch vacuum hoses that can't be leaking. There should be a schematic on the under side of the hood.

Well it passed smog today and he did not want to charge me the $100 because he said I have spent so much on the truck already,
