ok, snapped the stock rear end so now im thinking about an s10 rear but got a few ?'s. Did they put different rears in different trucks and which would be the strongest. And the truck already has a shortened driveshaft that fit off the buick 350 and auto trans that i have no idea what it is, if i get one off an s10 will my driveshaft now be to short or too long? I would appreciate any advice

youd prolly be better off just getting another stock rearend and just takin it easy on it. just think. itll be a bolt in solution. wont have to get a driveline made, and you can prolly pick on up off here or at a junkyard for prolly 100bux.

i was just figuring if i was taking it off anyway, it would be worth some money to have something a little heavier back there. I called a junk yard and they got one out of an s10 for 100. Is that about right?

Take your lumps and put the s-10 rear in your truck and enjoy the experience and don't worry about the minor stuff. There are millions of those rears being hammered on all the time. Keep in mine that the s-10 and the 82 up comaro-firebird used the same rear end and parts. These rear asy.s are pretty strong, that is until you bolt on slicks then it is time for a 9" ford rear.Get the s-10 rear then get the posi out of a 82 up f-body and be happy. 8)

and grab a driveshaft from a 71-81 caramo or firebird and it should drop right into your truck... stronger and no extra modifications required

I paid $150 for a '92 S-10 10 bolt with 3.42 gearing. I paid $175 more to turn it into a posi rear end.

hey do your self a big favor and find a 57-59 for galaxie or fairlane {hard as hell to find but worth it. most of these rears have a double rib carrier too} and grab the 9'' from under it it will slide right under the luv you may have to put on new perches i am not sure about the fit on them but the rear is only about 3/4 in wider and you will have also solves your wheel bolt pattern problem i put one in mine but am running 3 link so thats why i dont know about the perches hope this helps yall

you gotta be careful with those 4x4 rear axles though cuz they are wider than 2wd.. so it can cause some issues with clearance

If you blew out the luv rear end, you are probably going to need something stronger than an S-10. Ford nine inch rear ends are inexpensive and lots of shops narrow them. Get a posi truck rear end out of a salvage yard and have it narrowed. They are geared lower and have the spring mounts on them. You will spend a little more money, but you shouldn't ever have to fix it.
