I just replaced the master cylinder on my truck. Whne I removed the POS old one it had a gasket between it and the power brake booster. The new one did not come with that gasket. Is it something important and I need to get one installed when I can? The brakes work better than they ever have so I don't think it's that big of a deal.

if your feeling uncertain, get some gasket material from a parts store and make one. i dont think its got to have it though. im pretty sure that side is the dry side andways.

Any car I ever worked on it never had a gasket between the master cylinder and the power brake booster. If their is any fluid in that area means you have a leaking master cylinder.

oh my master cylinder leaked all over that area along with it's massive internal leak. that's fixed but i was curious about the gasket as I have never had one there on any other car either.

I just replaced mine with a mid 80's isuzu pup master brake cylinder. It fit like a glove and works fine. I like it because it is aluminum instead of cast iron. The only thing is that I had to get new brake lines to run from the hydraulic differential pressure switch to the master brake cylinder.

At advance auto parts search for 82 isuzu pickup under brake hydraulics master brake cylinder. I bought mine on ebay new with reservoir on it for about 40 dollars total cost. I went to advance auto parts with a old brake line from the old master cylinder so they could much the fitting on it(metric) got two at 18 inches long. mounted the new master cylinder and used the old lines to prime the cylinder. Then put the new lines on.
