i just found the limit on slapper bars. i would say it's about a mid to low 10sec in the 1/4 mile. just got back from the summit finals at the motor plex in ennis texas. i ran the best of 9.75 @ 138 with the slapper bars, but was having a hard time hooking up my 32x14.5's. i'm switching to a ladder bar with coil overs. my 60ft went to crap and all of my slower bud's went quicker on 60 ft. every one said i was spinning a little. all the good air for my 496 was too much for the slappers to handle..

Yeah, when you start gettin in the nines, it's time to start the ol upgrade. You know what they say, the quickest way to make a small fortune in racing is to start with a large one!

Try Art Morrison for a set of adjustable ladder bars and sliders this way you can keep the leaf springs and have all the traction you can handle at a fair price. This is what i have on my truck an it sticks hard and straight.Plus you have some adjustability in ride hight.

we run slappers down into mid-high 9's on a 8" slick around here. 60' foot is about 1.47 not bad for a puny tire like that.

stepping up to a 10.5 tire would put a slapper bar LUV truck into the low 9's

You Texas guys should remember Slapper Bar Sammy... I believe that Camaro was low 8's

Cal trac or slide a link is the best bolt on traction device for a leaf sprung car IMO. Its more streetable than ladders or 4 bar but it will eventually bend your leaf springs after many hard launches

Hey Hotrod80, I had a red 73 like that with a 427 big block and a muncie 4 speed back in the day. I launched like that with the RPM's up once and the Lakewood bars I had both bent and stuck in the pavement. I had to take them off on the side of the road lol! That pic does bring back the memories. I'm glad you shared it with us.

I've seen those bars or similar around for a long time. since back in the 80's I think. I've always wanted to find out where to get them cuz they look kind of cool

Why not just go with Kaltrack bars.

They work on a totally different principal to the slappers.

The fastest (unopened IE; stock bottom end) LS1 in OZ runs the kal track setup and its in the 9's

Could save you some green.

I emailed calvert racing and they don't make a pair for a factory LUV set up . Simaler in principle to a slapper with a moveable instant center.

With the right gear bits and insturctions/example to follow they wouldnt be that hard to make at all.

Not much harder than home made slapper bars.

We used some "slapper" tracton bars with them adjusted all the way against the springs. Not all classes will let you run a 4 link. This seemed to work good for what we ran.

Boy is not ennis a hot mofo, no trees, nothing. I have been running VW's up their for several years at VW events. Good track, lots of records set there I saw VW Paradise break 200mph in their VW dragster at ennis.

Most of our late stuff there is in Aug-Setember time.

Richard

Yes, Saw slapper bar run back in 2000 or so when Navasota still had a drag track. I don't remember times, but it was a Blue Camaro with a Nitrous setup.
