I know this has been brought up, but when I was searching I couldnt find what I wanted. I have the 1.8 and it has the 4 barrel carb. I was going to put the offy intake, headers, weber 38, delta cams and the whole bit to soup it up. My problem is that I live in Cali and I know nothing about smog. All I hear is that the headers, intake are not smog able. Is the weber 32/36 smogable in Cali, and since I have the 4 barrell carb will I have issues? This is the kit I was looking at, is this the right one for my setup? http://www.webercarbsdirect.com/product_p/wk663.htm I need it to pass smog here though. It says it has an adapter, so does that mean it changes from a 4 barrell to a 2 barell? Sorry for being so complicated, but I am confused... 8O

4 barrel on a 1.8L? Are you certain about that? I know offy makes an intake that makes that possible, but I've never seen one in use, or heard of one in use for that matter. If you have "stock" carb and have been looking at 4 barrel stuff, that would cause a lot of confusion. If you are sure you have a 4 barrel, then we really need to see some pics of that, and I doubt you'd gain anything at all upgrading to a 32/36 Weber.

The original carb for a 1.8L is a two barrel Hitachi, and the Weber 32/36 kit comes with an adapter plate to fit the stock intake. If you get the offy intake, it fits the Weber directly so the stock carb will not fit the offy intake.

I could be wrong, I havent looked at the actual carb, but thats what I was told. Its stock so whatever comes on the stock 1.8 is what I have. So since your probably right its a two barrell and the weber 32/36 will have the adapter, but will it pass smog? :?:

Well, I contacted The Weber Company directly and was told that Webers are for off road use Only. So I guess I gotta find something...

I was at Weber's website not too long ago and I thought they had three versions of the 32/36; one was for street use. Maybe you should take another look.

Most smog guys will let it pass if it looks correct meaning no screws in ports to block off. I would bet if you did a clean install and had everything hooked up I would doubt they would notice it was not stock. Most smog guys are more into the late model fuel injection and probably would not notice the illeagle carb.

I agree.. Even though the Weber is sold as an "Off Road Use Only" carb, I'd try and get it passed thru smog anyway. The worst they can say is No. Play it dumb and say that you thought it was stock. That's how it was when you bought the truck.

Alright, I will probably just try, cause' I really dont want to get just another crappy carb. I will just go to one of the whole in the wall places that are probably to lazy to try and look up the numbers. I am 20 and my only other vehicle is a 97 Jeep Grand Cherroke and I havent had to worry about any parts like that. Thanks a lot for the help guys :D
