Sounds like your points need replaced. Pull the dist cap off and have a look at them.

i did. they where not moving at all. i reset them to .020. then they started moving. i unplugged the coil wire from the distributer and held it next to the block and it was not sparking. i can't figure it out and it's driving me nuts, lol.

Your coil needs power and a pulsating ground to work. Use a volt ohms meter and make sure you have power to the coil while cranking. If you do, use a dwell meter and make sure the points are still good and making contact. If you do not have a dwell meter, disconnect the neg side of the coil and run a test light to the neg wire(from the points) to the poss side of the batt and crank, if the light flickers, you should have spark, if not the points are not making contact. Also if your coil is shorted across the windings that will leave you with no spark as well. Also make sure your condenser is OK.

Also...if you have a volt/ohms meter handy - then you can test your coil easily.

Other than that...I'd say check all of your connections, your fuses and their connectors, and and maybe check the two main fusable links that are next to the battery that the alternator/voltage regulator uses to supply charge to your battery and to power your system.

The electrical/charging system of a Luv is sure not it's most admirable part is it?

well guys, THE BEAST IS RUNNING!!!!!

I changed the points and cleaned up the distributer cap contacts.
She fired on the first crank, not bad for not running for 5 years.
Now I need to do the brakes and clean the gas tank. It shouldn't be long and I'll be driving. Thanks for all the help.
