Yep, I broke down and got the front disc kit from Aerospacecomponents.com. First of all, the kit is excellent, it fits like a glove. Everything fits like it suppose to, I never had to call them for support on the installation. It looks REAL good, the bright aluminum shines.

The down side is the cost, I had to part with 7 bills for the kit. I had to make the conversion to a 5-lug setup and believe it or not this was my best option. I tried to do the Vega rotor option, I bought the Vega Rotor/Hub, the inner and outer bearing and the seal from O'Reilly's for $132, this is for one side only. I had a heck of a time finding a machine shop to do all machine work for the conversion. The best price for the machine work on both rotors was $400.00. I decided against this path and returned the parts, O'Reilly's took the items back.

If you add all of them up, $264.00 (for 2 kits @$132 ea) and the $400 machine shop cost, that comes to $664.00. The cost differential to the Aerospacecomponent kit is approx $50.

I think the $50 extra cost gave me added insurance that everything is going to work and fit properly and of course look really good. Judge for
yourself.

One other advantage, if I ruin a rotor I can purchase just the rotor since they bolt on to the hub. The Vega option would require the me to start from scratch again repeating the cost and headaches.

The kit comes with everything required for the installation including

Rotors (vane type)
Hubs
Inner/outer bearings
Inner bearing seals
Calipers (4 piston type)
Caliper mounting bracket
Brake pads
All nuts, bolts, etc.
Instructions

Everything comes off the Luv, down to the bare spindle, then mount and bolt things up. One adjustment to center the caliper to the rotors and that is it.

You will re-use the Spindle bo1t and slotted washer, etc.

On my order the part number is AC-247VR. But I just described what I wanted to do and they (Steve) did the rest.

I'm running a Buick 3.8 (odd-fire) with a Thurbo 400, and Ford 8" rearend w/ rear disc brakes (off a '94 Marquis).

It looks real nice. The rest of your truck in the background looks pretty sweet too. Have you got more pics of? Or have you posted them here on a different thread?

Im curious:
On the rotors and calipers,
are the rotors the same circunference or larger than a stock LUV rotor?
Tell us about those calipers? Etc etc....

Here is a photo of the original and new disc brakes. The original rotors are about 9.75 in the newer one are 10.75 in. The new calipers are 4-piston type. What is neat about these calipers is that the pads are changed by removing the center 3" screw (shown) and pop the pads out upward. Unmounting the caliper is unnecessary. The weight of the newer rotors and calipers is about 1/2 the original.

This a picture of my drive train the body is a stepside but is not ready for prime time.

This is a pic before the start of my project. It looks okay but it is pretty rough under the covers.

So, you are backing up this upgrade with the stock LUV brake fluid system and resevoir, etc etc? No additional changes but the rotor/caliper set-up?

Is the new rotor a one piece rotor?
Backside image?

"The original rotors are about 9.75 in the newer one are 10.75 in"...
10.75 or 11.75 ?, I was looking at his site at that kit.

For this kit the rotors are 10.75" This a two piece rotor/hub , the rotor is separate from the Hub. They are bolted together with 6 bolts. You can see three of the bols (outer ring) in the comparison picture.

Yes, I'm using the same stock master cylinder setup. Since 76+ Luv come with stock front disc brakes. I'm not changing any additional parts. I don't anticipate any problems, but only the final road test will tell the tale.

Ok, I am now interested in how that LUV stops now!
How long before you drive it and know the results?

It won't be for a while, I've got alot of work left and not much time during the week. I've got a new job that is eating up to much daylight.

But there have been a couple of guys on this web site that have used this conversion. No one complained of any problems, search for "aerospace" in the forum area.

One last question...
when you went to the larger discs, and that different caliper, does that caliper and rotor clear the inside offset and ID of a stock 14" rim?

I don't have a set of stock 14" rim, I was using an aftermarket 14" steel spoke rim. As far as I can tell the it fits but is really tight. I can't say anything for the stock rims. I will be using 16" upfront and 17" in the rear when done. Both will be approx 25" in height.

The kit hub has 2 sets of bolt patterns that will fit a 5x4.5 and a 5x4.75 pattern.
