Remove the mount bolts, disconnect the gas filler tube and the vapor tank lines, disconnect the taillight wiring and side maker and licence plate lights.
Get at least 2 people to lift the bed off of the truck.

You can see several of them looking in the wheel well. Look for mounts that come up from the frame and meeting the bed. If I recall correctly, there are 5 per side. You might have to crawl under there with a flashlight and really look, but they are not too hard to find.

The only wires you should have to deal with are right at the rear by the license plate, and for hoses you have the large filler hose and three that go into the expansion chamber hidden behind the cover inside the bed on the driver's side, just ahead of the fender. Take off the cover and pull the hoses loose, then feed them down under the bed and it should be free. Label the hoses though, so you can get them back in the right spots, and plug them off so bugs and dirt don't end up in your fuel tank. They will also leak fuel if they get below the level of the gas in the tank, trust me on that one. ;)

I pulled the tub off my ute today.

* 5 bolts eash side, 17mm (short wheelbase). The ones you cant get at have captive bolts or washers fixed to the heads of the bolts to stop them turning. I used an air impact ratchet from underneath and it was easy to get at all the bolts. Spray the bolts with CRC or WD40 or similar.

* 1X10mm headed bolt holds up the fuel filler tube attaches to the tub in under the wheel arch.

* 2x10mm bolts and 3 hoses for the charcoal/vapor canister.

* 6x12mm hold on the rear bumper/possibly tow bar like fitted to my ute. one horizontal and two vertical. I rekon its a lot easier to get the tub off with the bumper out of the way.

* Theres three nuts on the inside of the tub for each tail light. Undo them and pull the light away. Unplug the light from the wiring loom and poke the plug down thru the hole. Climb underneath and fold back all the tabs that hold the wiring in place until your back to the ones that hold the wiring to the chassis. You need to unplug the numberplate light and disconnect the trailer plug if youve got one.

Two tips. Watch the rear mudflap brackets, they catch on the bolts in the spring shackles. If your doing it the muscle way, put the back axle up on stands and remove the rear wheels. If you do that it means you wont have to lift the tub as high to get it off.

I had no muscle so i roped it up and hoisted it using the beam in the shed roof with the endless chain/block and tackle.
Pushed the ute forward out from under it once i had it up high enough.
*its centre of weight is to the rear of centre* i had to hook up a few bits of rope to lift it up straight.
I laid some pallets down on the car trailer and backed it in under the tub.

Ive measured up for the steel framed, timber deck, flat tray im going to make. All thats left to do now is to get the ute tub off at the place where im going to store it until im setup to repair it.

Bob.
