Hey all, I just was looking up parts and stuff for my luv i just got a few weeks ago for my 18th bday, and i ran across this community. it seems cool.

im completely new to trucks and cars and stuff. But my dad is helping me rebuild the engine on it.

Its got like a weird isuzu motor in it that used to be fuel injected, but they made it into carbuerated (spelling?)

The reason why its got this engine, if you guys are at all interested in knowing lol, is because the owner that had it before me, blew up his engine, so he traded it to his dad for a jetta, and his dad just found another isuzu motor and threw it in and checked to see if it ran, and let it sit for 6 months until i came along and fell in love with it. Well, unfortunately i was drivin it and blew the head gasket, and my dad asked if i wanted to rebuild the whole thing. and paint the engine compartment and stuff like that.

HELL YEAHHH

i mean my luv is a sweet ride, its this kind of green that no one else has, and it just stands out. Its got a few bumps and scrapes and some rust, but with some tlc, its gonna be sick.

I just thought that id join these forums because you guys all like luvs, and maybe i could get some pointers and stuff on what to do to it, from all you experts. :-)

well let me know how u guys feel about it, and feel free to ask me questions about it, and soon enough ill have some pics up of it.

Thanks,
-Chris

That is an eye catching color. Nice looking truck too, I like the rims.

As for being low, well it is getting there. ;) My 77 is higher in the back but pretty close to that in the front and I don't really consider it lowered.

The motor is probably just a G200 1.9 Liter from an Isuzu Impulse. It does make a difference if you go to rebuild it though. Some of the parts are different like pistons and such. Look on the block behind the exhaust manifold for a fairly big cast number, G180 is a stock 1.8L LUV block, G200 is a 1.9L that could be from a carb'd Isuzu truck or a FI Impulse, and if it starts with 4Z (like 4ZC1, 4ZD1, or 4ZE1) then you have something a bit larger.

The shortcut way to tell would be to look at the valve cover. If it is painted steel (usually black) with "ISUZU" pressed in the middle in big letters lengthways it is a G180 or 200. If the valve cover is aluminum and says "ISUZU" in smaller letters (less than an inch high) crossways then you are looking at a 4Z something more (2.0, 2.3 or 2.6L)

Anyhow, welcome and get us more info and more pics!

thanks so much for the welcomes guys.

and 800xl the valve cover is the big isuzu letters pressed on it longways. or w/e. and its not he stock engine cuz the guy blew it. but maybe they got another one? were they fuel injected in 79 tho? because this engine was, they just welded the fuel lines or w/e on it and made it carbuerated.

and another question i have is..

when we're done rebuilding it, it will be like brand new right? it has no miles on it? and be purrrttyyy. lol

Welcome to the site.
My guess is by your statement above they just removed the smog stuff and welded the plugs from the air bar that go into the head on the exhaust side...

diarmadhim's idea sounds about right. The smog pump and air rail (also known as the Air Injection Reactor system) would be on the exhaust side of the motor and it is fairly common to pull it and weld the ports closed. The fuel injection intake is so different, it would take a lot of work to fit a carb to it, much more than just welding a few ports closed.

The only fuel injected motor that would have a valve cover like that is a G200 out of an Isuzu Impulse. Look for the code on the side of the block, behind the exhaust manifold, sort of towards the rear half of the motor, in about 1 inch tall letters. That is about the only way to be sure. G180 is a stock style LUV motor, G200 is something from a bit later Isuzu.
