Hey, I don't mean to be presumptive, but will the relay activate, or is it just dead?

If the relay is pulling in, you might be able to bring the contacts back to life.

Get a little carborundum file, (Radio Shack use to sell them). It's about 1/4" wide, very thin with abrasive surface on both sides. Place it between the contacts, push down lightly on the contacts, and pull the file out. That will clean any carbonization from the mating surface of the contacts.

If you can't find a file, you can use sandpaper (like 1000 grit ) to clean the contacts. The difference is that sanpaper can leave particles embedded in the surface of the contacts. If you're in a pinch, this might buy you some time.

You can replace it with a Bosch 40 amp unit. All parts stores got them. 800xl has the connections figured out so get with him for the correct info.
