Ok so first off little background. 1980 LUV 4x4 1.8l 4spd. Stock except for an accel coil and wires. While cruising down the freeway it stuttered a few times and then the generator light came on. It was running fine with the light on, but when I pulled of onto my exit it died. I could start it up just fine and keep going but without my foot on the gas it would just die and I'd have to start it again. Any ideas?

I have had that happen before! LOL, when mine did it, it was the alternator, you might want to replace the voltage regulator while you are doing the alt swap as well. The Voltage Regulator is mounted on the side of the engine, separate from the alt. Good luck, RF

Of course, check all wires first, making sure that they are all snug, etc... always do the dumb dumb checks first. RF

Is there an upgraded alternator for the 1.8?

Don't forget when alt dies there no power to fuel pump and truck wont run very long. When it happens 200 mi from home you get real inventive.
