I am getting ready to pull my smog pump and I'm wondering what I need to do to cap or plug the head where the lines go from the head to the rail. Any help would be appreciated

get ya some pipe plugs to fill the holes and the cross over tube that runs from the exaust manifold to the intake sut it off 3 inches from the fitting and smash it and fold it so they don't leak

I want to get rid of that tube and everything. I think it will look cleaner that way

What I did was cut the small tubes from the rail pretty close to the plugs then removed the plugs and welded them closed, ground the tops flat and reinstalled them. Same goes for the larger ones on the exhaust manifold and the intake...

Hey, just go to the hardware store and buy some bolts that fit into the holes the riser used to go into. The size to look for believe it or not is exactly what size the sparkplugs are. Go ahead, stick a spark plug in there and check it out. I did this on my old 79 years ago, took the pump off, the riser, etc... Found the bolts at a local hardware store and had no problems. RF

Another easy trick is to take the air injection rail off, cut the 4 tubes off just below the little hex head tube connectors that thread into the head and thread the centers of them with a tap.

Then pick up some allen screws and brass washers from any hardware store and screw them into the center of them when you put the little hex head tube connectors back into the head and tighten everything down.

It plugs the holes perfectly and really isn't that noticable or unattractive....plus they are easily removed if you ever have to change or rebuild you head.

Doing mine only took me about 1/2 an hour.

I did this just yesterday. I kind of did what the tazman said.

I cut the tubes off about 3/8 inch above the nut. I used a mini-tube cutter, and that was as close to the nut as I could get.

I tapped the tubes with a 1/4-20 tap. I got the type of bolt you use an allen wrench on. I got black ones from the auto parts store. I put red thread locker on the bolts, and put 'em in the tubes. I skipped the brass washers.

I also cut off the other end of the tube, the part that goes in the head.
I put the tubing cutter up against the seating flange. That left about 3/8 of tube going back into the manifold.

It looks really custom. Thanks, Tasman!
