I used an E-Z wiring kit, basically the same as painless, but less expensive. Their phone support was excellent, I emailed them the original wiring schematic and they walked me through step by step the parts I couldn't figure out myself.

I just got done installing a painless wiring system for my 76'. It took a lot of trouble shooting but i got it done. What i did was basically read the stock wiring diagram that you can print off of the information section and the instructions that came with the kit. The painless kit is real easy to work with because every single wire is labeled were it needs to go. I had to use some of the original wire that was in the stock harness though so if you still have it dont throw it away. Its pretty tedious work but its worth it when your done. I'd be glad to help you with whatever you need to know about it. Hope this helps.
