I have a 1980 Luv. It won't stay running.
ou have to pump the gas pedal constantly especially if trying to drive it. I already put on a new fuel filter. I do know that where the fuel lines go into the carb it is loose right there, but I couldn't get the nut (bolt) to tighten or loosen. Also a couple of random times it ran perfectly without pumping the gas pedal, and during those 2 times the GEN light was on. The GEN light was never on any other times. I don't know if it has anything to do with it. I think the alternator works fine because the battery seems to stay charged. Fuel problem?

Maybe the carburator needs to be rebuilt? Just a guess.

If it runs right with the gen light on then I would suspect a spark issue. It sounds like your voltage regulator is a bit sticky, causing the GEN light issue, but also maybe making the coil resistor bypass relay stay on too. That would mean the coil is getting full 12 volts, making a hotter fatter spark, and make the truck run better or at least different.

Make sure the points are good and gapped right, and check the spark plugs for condition and correct gap.

I put in new points, condenser, and rotor, and cap. Same problem.
