Ok, someone slap me. I wana 2 wheel drive LUV, BUT $ is tight. Can I replace my 4x4 spindles (I have an 80 4x4) with 2x4 spindles? Are the A-arms the same? Can I bolt in 2x4 A-arms in place of my 4x4 A-arms? Should I just slam my 4x4 and shut the hell up??????????

I'm not worried about the tranny/t-case, I'll swap to a newer 5spd.

Also, can I pull the front CV's and front pumpkin, and still drive around without killing the front bearings????

And I kinda have a handle on breaks, and steering (I think!).

I dug around in the archives and couldn't find anything....

Any thoughts, besides I've lost my mind???????? :drinking:

Thanks.

we converted codys 81 luv from 4x4 to 2wd. we used mid 80s pup 2wd spindles that had the same ball joints as the 81. then we had to get longer tirerods to compensate for the new spindles.

so if you get 2wd spindles, you can take all your 4x4 gear out. theres like 4 big bolts that hold the front axle in. you kinda just have to tear it apart to get all the 4x4 junk out. that basically what we did.

The transfer case is "married" to the tranny.

You cannot pull it.

You can either change out the tranny and driveline, or just pull the driveline off. It is not a slip-yoke like the back-end and will not leak.

I like that idea. Being a truck driver, I like the idea of at least still having the option of using the low gears even if it's only 2WD. You could really pull a big boat up the ramp or something like that with the low range.

Both of my trucks are 2WD, but I have a 4X4 trans out back and am thinking of using it in the 78 when we do the engine.

Any KB spindle will work.

The 88 should be a TF it wont work, the lower ball joint points up instead of down.

The 4x4 does run different front suspension to the 2x4. The lower arms and costor rods etc are different.
