not really but almost.

me and TR went out to a local 4x4/dirtbike spot and we broke the luv. everything was goin awsome till we got caught up in a very off camber situation. we were goin down a really narrow trail that was really off camber and that was washed out. we got to the spot that had been washed out and Tr had the wheels turned the wrong was and we got caught in it. we tried backin out but slid into a worse angle. so were sitting in this wacky angle with the fronts stuck in a wash out and the rear driver tire is about 2 feet in the air. we tried backin out on more time but the one wheel in that back just spun, and the front wouldnt budge. so we tried harder and the chain in the transfercase broke.
so i call ezekiel and a friend of mine to come help us. but when they were on theyre way, another guy there with a toyota pickup pulled us out. im pretty sure the transfer case is shot. the front wheels didnt do anything when he tried dumpin the clutch when he was out, so no more good 4 byin in the luv.

The Tcases in these guys are gear driven. That said i bet you poped a CV, i have done that in the exact situation your talking about. I highly doubt even a built 4banger has enough umph in it to break a T case or pumpkin. I would just start out by locking the hubs and spinning the drive shaft. If you can its in the front axle itself. If you cant then it is either a fubared U-joint or in the Tcase.

so you have a 4x4 pup, that you mud a little bit with... and you take it on the quater...

what about an axle,or a diff., the front pumpkins are suposively weaker than the rear correct?

well what can happen is the birfield joint will spit a ball out. Then since no LUV in exsistance has the CV boot clamps andmore they can spin on the axles with out tearing. Thats what happened with mine. The front diff is weaker but i highly doubt a 4banger can break one. I gave my 86 Trooper hell wich runns more engine, more wieght and the same axles. never had a problem.

TR has jumped his truck on pavement before.. could that have weakened things enough for him to break stuff!
