My clutch seemed to have gone out this morning... I'm ordering a new one and it's giving me the option of 200mm or 215mm disc diameter.

Both fit 4WD (what I've got), 1.8L, and 24 spline. The 215mm option does not say G180 engine (I don't think that's of concern however).

Does either one fit? It's not asking for a VIN option or anything either.

Under the Specifications page of the Clutch section of my 79 Factory Shop Manual it states that the dimensions of the clutch are 200mm outside diameter, 130mm inside diameter, and 3.5mm in thickness. If it is possible you could measure the old one, 200mm is supposed to be 7.87 inches. Good luck, RF

I've called a few clutch places, they're all telling me it's an 8.5" or 215mm disc.

This is based on 1980 and being 4WD.

Well, 200mm is what the 79 Factory Service Manual says, I dont think that there is any difference between a 79 and 80. Wait and see if some of the other guys chime in. I am sure someone knows firsthand what size to get. Good luck, RF.

4 places have said 215 now....

I ordered one, gotta love those cheap autoparts store clutches. I'm use to spending 4 times this for a clutch. haha

1978 service manual calls for a 200mm disc. according to advanceautoparts 1980 takes the same part number as a 1978.

Both should be the same, 2wd or 4wd. The engines and tranny's are the same except the transfer case in the 4wd. Also, if you go to the napa website http://www.napaonline.com it shows the 200mm or 7 7/8 inches (like I said the equivalent in inches is) to be the part for the Luv. Let us know if your 215mm oversized clutch works....RF

Cool, glad someone with an eighty chimed in, I think that he was getting stressed out with our 200mm talk. I had always thought the two years (79 and 80) were identical. RF

MEPR is dead on. The larger clutch came in 1980 for the 4WD only, and then in 81 everything got it. The same clutch stuck clear up until Isuzu put out the 2.6L motor in 1987 when they upped the size again. My 86 Trooper uses the same 215mm/8.5" clutch, even with a bigger 2.3L and being much heavier than a LUV. The only way I can see you running into trouble is if the motor in your 1980 4x4 came from a 2WD or older truck and has the flywheel for the smaller clutch.

Dude... it's not even the clutch, it's the effin cable. I didn't have time to look this morning when it happend. After actually looking when I got home I found a nice frayed cable. :)

So the $80 part and 8 hours (or whatever) turned into $20 part and 1 hour. :rawk:

Yeah... I don't even know anything like that about this pickup. I don't know how many miles are on the chassis or the new engine. All I know is that it's got a rebuilt motor.

Such things are probably too much to ask for in a $400 pickup. ;)

Rebuilt motor? Then I really would not count on the 215mm clutch being in there if this ever comes up again. A rebuild would have the most common parts on it, and the smaller clutch flywheel is the most common. There is a shot they swapped flywheels from the original motor, but it is not definite. Gotta love working on older rigs that could have parts from 6 or 7 different years in them.

Also just thought i would throw this out there, S-10s use the same clutch untill 84 i think. But that was becouse for the first few years they ran 1.9L Isuzus ans thier base 4banger and even a few 2.2L Deisel Isuzus found thier way into S-10s.

Im with you on that thought.

If it were me and i didnt want to pull the thing apart before ordering the kit. Or i wanted to have the bits before pulling it off the road, i would grab a flywheel and get it machined and get a kit to suit the flywheel.

Its straight forward over here. G161Z and G180Z had the 8" the G200Z and up had the 8.5"

Bob.
