So yesterday I was driving down the 101 freeway at about 75 in my 02 2500HD with a white F-350 next to me in the #2 lane, me in the #1 lane. I see in my rear view mirror 2 mustangs racing and coming up fast on me. I say screw it, they can wait for me to pass the Ford and then continue their race. Well they decide to cut over to the #3 lane and cut me and the F-350 off. You can read the rest. And yes I was the fool looking for the dead mans pulse. He was driving a Cobra and she was is a 6 cyl late model convertable mustang.

Man suspected of racing on Highway 101 killed in crash
By Star staff
June 7, 2006

An Oxnard man suspected of racing his car Tuesday on Highway 101 has died and the woman he is suspected of racing has been arrested, officials said.

Henry Chavez, 23, was killed in the crash on southbound Highway 101 near Rice Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. Steve Reid, CHP spokesman, said Lorin Franco, 20, of Ventura was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.

A CHP spokeswoman said Chavez and Franco were acquainted.

At 10:32 a.m., Chavez and Franco, both driving Mustangs, were racing at a speed estimated at more than 100 mph, Reid said.

According to the CHP, Franco was directly ahead of Chavez when she applied the brakes. Chavez moved to the left, lost control of his car, then swerved across the southbound lanes and struck a car that was entering the highway.

Chavez's car ran off the road, hit a chain-link fence and a steel plow, and went airborne, landing in a strawberry field, officials said. Chavez was pronounced dead at the scene, Reid said.

Janet Woods, driver of the car entering the highway, complained of neck and back pain but chose not to be taken to the hospital, Reid said.

Franco continued south after the accident, Reid said. CHP officers found her in Camarillo and arrested her.

Reid said the incident remains under investigation.

The southbound entrance at Rice was closed for at least an hour, Reid said.

That's why that stuff should be kept on the track and not on the road.

Honestly i dont feel the least bit sorry for either of em. The guy was stupid becouse he didnt know how to handle his car at speed obviously, and they were both stupid for not taking it to the track.
I can understand the stop lgiht to stop light race up to 10over than shutting down but 100 down the interstate in trafic is kinda dumb.

It's real dumb! I've seen an 80's Mustang get sideways (while racing) and hit the drivers door on a large power pole. The car split into 2 right behind the front seats. The front half went one way, the rear went another and the door and the dead kid were there at the pole.

Luvrv8, I'm sorry you had to see that. I know all to well how that just kinda ruins your day.

It's something that is becoming too common. I'm not saying I'm for or against it, but there's a time and a place for that stuff and on 101 is certainly not it. Sorry you had to deal with that crap Karl.

that sucks man. That type of thing is definitely on the rise.
I know around here the SDPD street racing task force came in and busted up all the organized street racing and immediately after that these type of impromptu high speed freeway runs that resulted in death also skyrocketed. no more saturday night street racing in desolate roads at 2am. its all been pushed into the city where we are all driving down the highway with our kids in the SUV. just wait to Fast and Furious 3 comes out. every kid out there who just got their license is going to be out there trying to drift theri moms volvo around every street corner.

Yea! The same stupid kids who we had to stop from jumping off the house roof with a cape on when they were 9 and Superman the movie came out.

We should have let them jump and hit their heads. It might have not some reality into them!

What really bug's me is he had a Cobra Mustang with later model Cobra rims, expensive ass shoes, and BALD tires. What a asshole to put everyone on the freeway in danger like that. The girl that ran was caught and has bonded out of jail. She has to go to court on Tues.

Man that sucks Karl, sorry you had to put up with it, I will agree there is a time and a place for racing..and on a busy freeway is not the place for it.

Reminds me of an experience I had, except the dude who died was a guy minding his own business driving down the road. I will never forget the heat from his burning car or the smoke coming off his body as he waited for the ambulance on the side of the road. He died at the hospital. Some stupid girl from high school trying not to be late getting back from lunch.
Something I'll never forget...
