what year of motor (G180) are the intake and exhaust on the same side?

72 - 75. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that 75 was the last year.

next question are the heads interchangable between that motor and the later model motor?

72-75 has the early isuzu motor

76-87 the Gxxx serise motor was used.

there are no interchangable parts between the different motors.

All the above (72-75) is right, at least in the US market. I don't know when the early style LUV motor was first used by Isuzu elsewhere, or if they kept using them somewhere overseas. Both of them say G180 on them, just to make that point clear. It was nice of them to confuse things like that.

Other than maybe some nuts and bolts (I think head bolts are actually just about the same) no parts swap over on the two motors.

i dont understand what your sayin here. the head from the early motor will fit on a later motor? ive looked at a early motor and the block and the head are sompletely different than a later motor. im confused...???!?!?!

Yeah, just the bolts. Sorry. That sentance I wrote is a bit confusing. I use way too many parenthesis () when I write. The heads are very different and would not interchange.
