I put a Grant steering wheel on my luv, but the metal plate that comes with the kit, rubs against the plastic on the steering column.
Any ideas?

My car came with something of the same, if I remember correctly the guy trimmed the plastic with a dremel, but I will check tommorow morning and let you know.

i say just trim it back with a dremel. It realy serves no purpose other than to dress up the steering column

I like both the ideas of the dremel on the plastic and just taking off the metal plate.

Has anyone tried to mount a aftermarket horn button with the grant wheel? I tried to do that, but when you turn it will cut the wiring that feeds through the wheel. :?

lol thats funny rondog. zane the steering wheel should have came with the horn setup unless you bought it used. if not i have no idea, i guess you could run the wire to the ground and make sure the metal cap on the inside of the horn button is hot and make sure it stays connected when you put it all together. thats about how the factory one is set up.

Are you using the #4164 adapter kit?

I am not sure the number of the kit, it was like a year ago I put the wheel on. Just recently I wanted to install the horn button.
I do know that I used the number recommend by other Luv owners off the site.

The wheel was used, I got it from a wrecking yard. I was going to use a after market button and putt that on the wheel, but not sure how to route the wiring. Ther is a extra hole on the wheel (other than the 3 small bolts that hold it to the adapter), I thought that was for wiring. I went to move imy Luv in the driveway and it cut the wires off. I could put the button on the dash, but it be nicer to have it on wheel.

isn't the little hole for a spring loaded doo-dad that presses against the horn ring.. no wires run the lenght of the column from button to dash?

I stil have the plastic whoo-ya (aka thing-a-ma-bob), that goes under the metal horn button. It a place on it to add a wire, but what wire do you hook up to it? I'm also not sure about the wiering in my steering column,
but I suppose I should hook up that ring first. I know that Grant seels differnt metal buttons, but in my opinion, could come of easy.

Here's the plastic thing I was talking about. How does the horn button work?
Do you push the button and that greats a compelete circuit?
I was thinking of maybe just attaching my aftermarket button on top,
and somehow connecting it to the wiring?

There is supposed to be a part that is on the bottom side of the wheel that rubs against the little horn contact on the turn signal switch. The wiring under the horn button goes through that extra hole and down to the ring that rubs the little spring loaded nub contact on the turn signal switch. I'll see if I can find the stuff from my grant wheel and take a pic.

So does the plastic thing go ontop of the steering wheel and then the spring is inbetween it? If anybody has a picutre of that, it would be very helpful. How about the wire off the plastc thing, does that hook up to the button?

Let me try... The plastic ring basicly floats over the metal center of the steering wheel. The spring will keep the plastic thing away from the metal because the horn button is snapped into place on the plastic thing.
The spring pushes on the button from the inside. The plastic thing keeps the button in place. So if you push down on the button, the plastic ring will make contact on the metal part of the steering wheel.
The wire end should have a contact something like a brush on an electric motor. That way it can have a constant connection when you turn the wheel.

The space between the steering wheel nut and the horn button may be too tight for the spring to fit. Grinding down the thickness of the nut will provide more room for the spring.

I undertand how the plastic ring works, and how to the wire runs through the hole. I'm still not sure where the wire will connect too.

I'm a visual learner, so thanks for putting up with my persistent questions.
gotta luv those shop manuesl that tell you something like
1.pull motor out
2. reverse steps to put motor back in.

Click on the link and read items 10 and 11. The drawing pretty much looks the same as an adapter kit for a LUV.
