Iwas just thinking about why the hell 800xl hasnt replyed to this  . I have never even seen a pre 76 engine so i cant help ya any. The only advice i can give is maybe just take a look at a shop manual again after resting some. I have been confused as all get out on engines before. But ill take a few hours to cool off and come back. That seems to help me alot...

My 75 and older kung-fu is on the weak side too, or I would have chimed in. I'll dig out my early series factory manuals and see what I can do though. A lot of my crap is packed away though, so it could take a bit to find a book. Doesn't the Haynes cover some of this? I thought it did. I helped my brother do the chain on his 75 like 20 years ago, but we had a motor that was put together right to start with to go by. What book do you have to go by untouchable?

Actually, I just looked this up cause I have a Haynes for my '75...the timing and everything has an illistration for it on page 1B-6 for a '76 luv.
I would look at that and then step back and compare what you've got to the pic there. Good luck! (cause this is probably what I have to do next for mine :D )
Meow
