the trannys are diferent. In order to retain the 4x4 youll need to find a 4x4 tranny/t-case from a diesel truck. The tcases are attached t0o the tranny and i dont know if you can convert a 2wd tranny to a 4wd. And also the starters on the deisels are on the opposite side as the gas engines. Thats why you cant just swap trannys.

i have never tryed taking the t-case and putting it onto a 2wd tranny. I think you might need to do some gear swapping in the tail housing. I think your best bet will be to tear the tranny down and swaping the front half of the casses(so your effectivly putting a diesel bellhousing onto a gas tranny). That way you dont have to fool around with anything as far as gears and what not. Follow what im thinking here?
But again i cannot garantee that will work...

redrocket, is your 81 LUV in good condition? Is the cab in good shape? Right now I'm looking to buy a cab (more so a shell that is stripped down) to replace the damaged one on my 82 LUV. If you do go ahead and remove the diesel engine/trans and you want to sell the cab let me know. Thanks.

Salvy

luke hunsaker where are u im right next to the utah az border in az i would like to just have the tanny and tcase if i can (preferably from the tail housing) and let me get back to u on the tcase and stuff cuz i running short on $$$ and i have plenty of time before im 16(now 14) luvdiesel as far as the cab goes... i $hit u not my older brother t boned a drunk indian(which pissed me off  because we let the thing sit and now has rust in the third cylynder) serious not a joke so the cab is ruined besides we cut out the grill so it would be easier to pull the engine and tranny so sorry :( but depending on which axles i go i would probably be willing to sell the rear another thing how huch includ.. the piston and all the goodies will it cost to bore it out clean. wow alot of big words
